Did President Obama just start World War III by waiving the U.S. ban on arming terrorists?

The Washington Examiner has just reported:

Obama waives ban on arming terrorists to allow aid to Syrian opposition

President Obama waived a provision of federal law designed to prevent the supply of arms to terrorist groups to clear the way for the U.S. to provide military assistance to “vetted” opposition groups fighting Syrian dictator Bashar Assad.

Some elements of the Syrian opposition are associated with radical Islamic terrorist groups, including al Qaeda

The law allows the president to waive those prohibitions if he “determines that the transaction is essential to the national security interests of the United States.”

That sounds pretty scary to me.

It also sounds like grounds for impeachment.

I hope this doesn’t lead to World War III.

Obama-Soros-sponsored web sites, paid for in part by taxpaying Americans, claim that this old quote is taken out of context:

In the wake of 9/11, my meetings with Arab and Pakistani Americans, for example, have a more urgent quality, for the stories of detentions and FBI questioning and hard stares from neighbors have shaken their sense of security and belonging...
...they need specific assurances that their citizenship really means something, that America has learned the right lessons from the Japanese internments during World War II, and that I will stand with them should the political winds shift in an ugly direction."

Totally ignoring the fact that a significant number of "naturalized" muslim-Americans* have turned out to be foreign agents, in the most negative sense. It is arguable that, in 1941, the Japanese were in exactly a similar positions.

And then there's this...
Financing Terrorism

* Why muslims-Americans? For islam there are no countries, just the ummah. An extreme, complete and permanent "tribal" collective. You never read about Iranian-Americans, Syrian-Americans, Jordanian-Americans, Yemeni-Americans, Qatari-Americans, ad infinitum. That means something.

Clausewitz had a saying about war being an extension of politics. Putin understands this. Why would Russia want a shooting war with us when Obama is our President? Obama is dumber than donuts. Putin will take advantage of this.

Yep - the article says that what Obama did is legal - and I agree with you that it’s still immoral and impeachable.

I think a real “world war” involves huge numbers of deaths from multiple major countries, including massive bombings in civilian areas. By that definition, there has not been a third world war. I worry that Obama’s actions could trigger such a catastrophe.

I admit to being confused about that. The article says the law gives the President the power to waive the ban, but I’m no legal expert.

One thing is or certain from a strategical point, Putin would never consider harming a hair on Obama’s head because he is doing more damage than any of his military, nuclear warheads or spies could ever do to the U.S.

I have a question for the legal freepers. Can a citizen place the president under citizens arrest for treason?

Absolutely.

Of course, surviving the experience might be a problem. The Secret Service might get a tad miffed at your presumption.
