Shelves of the Walmart on 24th St. have a few boxes of .38, .40, and .380
I was pleasantly surprised to see a few boxes of pistol ammunition along with the 12, 16, 20, and .410 birdshot shotgun loads on the shelves of this Walmart. The clerk said that they had been delivered today, but I saw them at 2:30 pm. He said that .223 cartridges were out the door within an hour, as were any .22 that they received.
As usual, they had plenty of .270 Winchester, .270 WSM, .300 Winchester, .300 WSM, and some .22-250. They also had a good supply of .410 2 1/2 inch defense loads designed for the revolvers that take them.
I then went to the largest gun store in town, Sprague's. I was pleasantly surprised to see cases of .223 for sale piled on the floor.
While the prices were about 60 cents a round, at least it was available.
They had .22 ammunition on the counter, limited to two boxes per customer.
They had most pistol calibers available, limited to one box per customer.
They also had cases of 7.62x39 and .308 (7.62x51) for sale, even if it was steel cased ammunition from Russia.
I asked the clerk if the ammunition supply was easing, and he said that they were still short, but they had a bit more than at their lowest point.
When I asked how they were able to have a better supply than most, He said "We have been here for 60 years, and we pay our bills."
I have been reading other reports from around the country that the supply of ammunition may be starting to catch up with demand.

No.
Yes, but 9mm is still scarce. Other calibers are increasingly available, but still way overpriced.
I have noticed the local super center and the smaller Wal-Mart both have their gun racks full. Still not quite back to normal as a lot of them are same guns in different calibers. Still that is a lot better than it was 6 months ago.
As for ammo, it is a little better too but still no .22LR or 9mm.
Our Cabela’s— the newest one, I think— is eatin’ their lunch. Actually found .22LR and .38SPC there recently. The .223/5.56 and 7.62x39 is in piles— still a five-box limit per customer.
New 30.06 in Garand clips is available there by the can (what I think of as the “.50 cal can”). Only one box of that per customer, please.
Yes, but only online so far. I scored some 5.7 ammo recently that hadn’t been available for months. Just took delivery of some nice-looking Partizan .308 that I’ll be testing this weekend. Still tough in some other calibers, and forget about the cheap .45 ACP range ammo reloads that used to be everywhere. Used to score that stuff for six bucks a box but that was in the Days Of Yore.
There is more supply in the places that I go to in north central WV.
no. There are more guns, but no ammo in the popular calibers at all.
The guys at the local chain stores have indicated that the shortage is “easing” but I figure that the price will permanently increase and product will slowly return to the shelves.
It lasted almost a year in 2008/2009 and I expect the same this time around.
Gun shop wanted $7.50 for a box of 50 22 lr. That’s 15 cents PER ROUND of 22. I guess it’s their way of preventing a shortage in their store.
Grandson has never seen it done anyway, it will be a learning experience.
Today I was in a WalMart here in Maine.
They had 40 (yes, forty!) boxes of 9mm Luger ammo. I was surprised, after all these months of rarely, if ever, seeing any.
There was also one box of .44, one box of .357, and one box on .38 ammo.
As usually, there was a sign which stated “three box limit per customer.”
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
There are people that actually wait several hours before Walmart or Dick's open and they buy all the ammo in order to resell it on Craig!s list. The employees at some of these stores notify their friends when the shipments come it , buy it and resell it. Until the market gets saturated I think there will be a paucity of reasonable priced ammunition on the store shelves.
I thought I was in pretty good shape. A good supply of lead, po wder, and cases, but I was in short supply of primers. My primer orders finally came in. That took several months.
I placed an order with CMP for a case of 22s. No telling when it’ll be filled.
very slight.
Not I - this morning I paid $360.00 for about 180 rounds of various. One was a box of 20x 30.06 for $47. And I had to go to a couple of places before I found any .308 win.
I went to the local gun shop the other day looking for some more .22LR for one of my pocket pistols, and he hipped me to this fact: The online ammo dealers are buying up all the .22LR and .223 ammo as soon as it becomes available, because those are the most popular calibers. They sell it for twice as much as the gun shops do, and they can soak you on the shipping charges. Because you can’t find them at the local gun shops.
And don’t even try looking for them at WalMart!
Our local wally world near Madistan WI, I was shocked to find 9mm, 40, and 45acp.
Prices were normal,
12.00 for 50- 9mm
16.50 -40
20.50 - 45acp.
With the 3 box limit, I made two trips as did my wife. There were at least a couple thousand rounds on the shelves after we made our purchases.
They also had 357, 38, 32, and 25acp along with rifle calibers.
All were Winchester or Federal brands
Yes, and no. I was able to purchase a hundred rounds of 9mm at Walmart today. I should be able to purchase a thousand.
But I'll take the hundred...
5.56mm
