Experts Skeptical Homegrown Terrorists Were Behind Boston Bombings
National Journal ^ | April 16, 2013 | Matt Vasilogambros

While officials are still investigating who was behind the deadly bombings at the Boston Marathon, President Obama made it clear on Tuesday that authorities are still unclear whether domestic or foreign actors are responsible for the attack.

But one message from domestic terrorism experts is clear: Most of the evidence points against an antigovernment group being responsible for the attack. Several militia groups, who fiercely and sometimes violently fight to keep their Second Amendment rights, have come out against the bombings in Boston.

While some of the factors surrounding the Boston bombings could point to these groups—a simplistic homemade bomb, causing mass casualties, falling on Tax Day—other factors don’t add up. For many of these groups, the date that most matters to them is not Tax Day or Patriots’ Day or even Hitler’s birthday, but the anniversary of the Waco siege (pictured below). On April 19, 1993, 76 people died when a radical, antigovernment sect’s compound in Texas burnt to the ground after days of firefights with federal officials. When Timothy McVeigh bombed the federal building in Oklahoma City in 1995, killing 168 people, it fell on the anniversary of the Waco raid, which he cited as a motivation for the attack.

Other members of antitax groups, who believe in a constitutional right not to pay a federal income tax, have attacked the Internal Revenue Service in previous instances. In February 2010, a man flew a small plane into the IRS building in Austin, Texas, killing himself and one other person.

In Monday’s case, though, the target was not a federal building or the IRS. This bombing at the Boston Marathon, experts say, doesn’t fit with the previous attacks from Patriot Movement types....

I don’t read much into that fact except for that is when the security got let down, which then allowed the bombers to strike.

Security is for the Official People, donchaknow? Not for the average at paying shlub.

a less experienced and effective security presence that presented the opportunity for the attackers.

Yep.

How did that happen?

Obama administration has SLASHED budget for domestic bombing prevention by 45 per cent…

Um, National Journal, check your facts:
That guy was not a right-winger or a typical "anti-tax" activist.

He wrote a rambling, confused manifesto that was more left-wing than anything else.

"Most of the evidence points against an antigovernment group being responsible..."

I had to read that twice, myself.

Yeah, I can see it being lefties who are trying to make conservatives look bad. Anyone remember the D.C. sniper case a few years back? The media was going on and on about right wing movements, until they actually found the shooter...

I am thinking the Boston Marathon, where there are women runners, is the type of event they would want to target. Women runners do not observe the strict dress code that Muslims want. The ability to run 26 miles would be difficult in the hijab and long clothing to conform with Islamic modesty laws.

[. . . this writer sure sounds like he wants us to believe it was domestic terrorists who bombed the marathon.]

Yeah, it’s bait-and-switch.

Precisely! And the low information voter, which they cater to, has already been convinced that it was a Tea Party supporter or an NRA Member or any Conservative perpetrated this. Conclusions have already been drawn - Big Dyke Napolitano has already declared that it was not part of a larger plot - despite having very few facts. Of course if it were perpetrated by the 0bama regime she WOULD know the extent of involvement.

Surely you don’t mean to suggest that the SPLC is in the defamation for profit business?

Yes. It seems to me that if it were a home grown group, they would have announced themselves by now. The mudslimes used to climb all over themselves to take credit before, but they’ve gotten smarter now.

Eric Michael Rudolph is one of the few non-muslim terrorists, if not the only, I can think of who targeted civilians (excluding the civil rights era).

This guy is a terrorist so your statement is incorrect. I don’t give a damn who a terrorist votes for or does not vote for.

It might be almost any radical group-—But-—I do think the mass wounding, double bombs, Terror at a soft target seem to point to the Middle East—maybe payback for Drone attacks? Maybe something paid for by Iran? Maybe Egyptians hitting us for holding the Blind Sheikh they worship? Could be almost anything. The truth will come out—I only play its before they strike again.

“President Obama made it clear on Tuesday....”

Unfortunately, America’s idiot chief exec couldn’t make clear a hot and cloudless day in July.

Most likely a random Moslem individual or group of pals. No affiliation. Just like the other small-time bombers who failed. Times Square, etc. Probably American in origin, but not in culture.
