He told her not to get the shot because they all had taken it and they all got the flu.
You CAN NOT get the flu from a flu shot. It contains a dead virus.

Shep, your bigoted ass is showing again.

Just like your local news affiliates and their prime time, on screen news anchors, Shep does not write the news, he simply reads from a teleprompter........I thought you knew that?

Reporting of flu cases is not mandatory. Some states do, some don’t. Some states only report cases among infants and/or old people. Some states only report in conjuction with hospital admissions reports where they list flu as the cause for admission (Often they don’t know when admitted.)

Lot’s of flu going around this year, probably more than most years, but not outside the normal range

You people who think the flu shot will give you the flu:

Think the flu vaccine can give you the flu?
It can’t.
The vaccine is made with a killed (flu shot) or weakened form of the flu virus (nasal flu vaccine), which can’t give you influenza. The nasal flu vaccine has caused transfer of the virus to others, but the risk of this happening is extremely low.

Concern that there’s a link between autism and the vaccine preservative thimerosal has prevented some parents from getting their kids vaccinated. Worry no more. Studies have found that there is no link between vaccines containing thimerosal and autism. And if you’re still worried, thimerosal-free flu vaccines are now the standard for children in the U.S. — and available to adults for the asking.

Stuck on the fact that you need to get vaccinated every year? There’s a good reason. Flu viruses change, so flu vaccines must change, too. Each year’s vaccine is unique, cultivated from the flu strains health officials believe will be most menacing that year.

Flu shot myths addressed by CDC:

(CNN) — Flu vaccine myths can confuse people trying to decide whether to get a shot. Here are five common myths and, based on information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the truth.

1. The shot can give you flu

Not so, says the CDC.

The viruses in flu shots are killed during the production of the vaccine, which means they cannot cause infection. The vaccine batches are then tested, with a group of people randomly assigned to get either the vaccine or salt water.

“The only differences in symptoms was increased soreness in the arm and redness at the injection site among people who got the flu shot,” the CDC found. “There were no differences in terms of body aches, fever, cough, runny nose or sore throat.”

Still, some people feel bad after a flu shot. Soreness at the injection site is one reason, but it usually dissipates within two days. It’s caused by the immune system making antibodies to the killed viruses in the vaccine that help a person fight off the flu.

The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices says symptoms, in rare instances, include fever, muscle pain, and discomfort or weakness, which also typically go away after a day or two.

And, though a flu shot won’t give you the flu, its protection doesn’t kick in for two weeks from the time of injection. During that time, you are vulnerable.

In addition, it’s easy to confuse seasonal flu for an illness caused by a number of other pathogens, including rhinovirus. Or you may be exposed to a flu virus that is not included in the vaccine. Finally, the flu shot does not always work — particularly among the elderly and people with weak immune systems. But even among these high-risk groups, the vaccine can prevent complications.

2. It is better to get the vaccine later in the season to limit the risk that its efficacy will wane

No. The shot lasts an entire flu season, except for some children who may need two doses. The CDC recommends that all people older than 6 months get a flu vaccine.

The CDC says seasonal flu vaccine shots have not been shown to cause harm to pregnant women or their babies.

4. I’ve had the flu before and it was no big deal, so bring it on

No. Seasonal flu exacts a bigger toll in some years than in others: Between 1976 and 2007, the flu was linked to a low of 3,000 to as many as 49,000 fatalities in the United States, with more than 200,000 hospitalizations.

There are two main reasons: The viruses that circulate in one year may differ from those that circulate in another. And, of course, people change from year to year, meaning that your response to a viral infection one year may not be the same as your response in another.

5. The flu shot doesn’t work

It doesn’t work all the time, but it does confer some level of protection. For example, the CDC says preliminary data for the 2010-2011 season show that it was about 60% effective for all age groups combined, and studies for earlier years found protection rates of up to 90%.

Actually a true influenza can kill anyone. I get colds and flus pretty frequently. The last time I would say I had influenza was 2009. I was sick for months with asthma, bronchitis and pneumonia.

Check out the CDC map tracking flu http://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/usmap.htm
Go back to mid-November and go forward observing weekly changes. Mississippi was one of the first three states posting widespread flu. The current map is the first showing a possible drop from maximum. Also, Google’s tracking app supports a possible down trend http://www.google.org/flutrends/us/#US-MS

Some here on FR think this is no big deal or being blown out of proportion. I came down with this very serious, "life threatening" (determined by the doctor) flu/lung infection that has been going around much of the country (especially our area) which left me totally incapacitated.

The authorities/doctors appear to have a handle on the seriousness and symptoms. I started getting sick around Christmas day and progressively got worse to the point where I had to go to the doctors.

When I went to the first doctor they asked me a question I did not understand at the time which made no sense: "are you coughing up blood?" The disease had not progressed, manifested to that point in my body yet so I answered "no". They treated me with a low-dose antibiotic and sent me home. The medicines did not help. I got sick very quickly after seeing the doctor and less than 40 hours later it got to the point where I was coughing so hard, for so long, I literally could not breath (dizzy to the point of almost passing out) and was coughing up blood and lung tissue (little pieces of pink alveoli) for several days, which is one of the more serious symptoms and side effects of this particularly nasty flu/viral bronchial infection. I had to go back to two more doctors less than two days later for treatment.

My point is this = the doctors must have already seen numerous others manifesting or been told about these serious symptoms and side effects because they asked me about this exact issue of "coughing up blood" BEFORE I had said anything to them! It appears the doctors have been seeing other patients experiencing these exact same symptoms and side effects so I am not the only one getting this sick.

I have three friends who also have the exact same thing so be careful, it is going around and it is a very dangerous infection.

The first course of antibiotics and meds (Prednisone, codine cough medicine, etc...) they put me on had absolutely no effect and the second course of very strong antibiotics and medications they have me on (see below for details) are finally starting to help. Needless to say I have been so sick that the doctors have me on strict bed rest and I have not been able to do anything but rest and try and recover. The good news is I am no longer contagious to others and the hacking cough is slowly subsiding, the bad news is it will still take time to get well enough to travel or to be up and around.

One more thing before I continue, say safe and be careful, from what I understand this flu/virus, what ever it is, has already spread to 41 of the 50 states in America and is also making it's way around the world and is one of the worst flu outbreaks in years (see article links enclosed below).

Avoid crowds/congested areas if possible (malls, movie theaters, grocery stores, etc) and if you have to go out in public, wear a surgical mask because all the “hand sanitizer” and usual “washing hands”, “don’t touch nothing” routine proved useless in my case regarding preventing catching this disease. I had also gotten a flu and pneumonia shot almost three months ago before I got sick and it did not help. I had taken all of the above precautionary measures in spades to keep from getting ill and still got sick anyway, possibly as a result of attending a Christmas eve service of over 100 people being held by one of my former students who had become a pastor.

I started getting symptoms within 24 hours after attending this event, even though I had taken all of the above sanitary precautions. This thing is most likely air-born transmitted. They are sick, they cough, it is in the air, you breath it in and presto-chango you are now infected.

The only course of treatment that appears to work in treating/curing this disease (at least in my case) appears to be the following: a heavier "Z Pak" course of antibiotics coupled with (in my case) a second course of Prednisone (60 mg 3 days, 40mg 3 days, 20mg 3days, a Simbacort 160/4.5 steroid inhaler and an Albuterol nebulizer/inhailer, along with codeine (Cerritussin) cough syrup.

By the grace of God, this treatment regimen is working but slowly. I am no longer coughing up blood and lung tissue.

What I have is NOT pneumonia, but some kind of potentially deadly bronchial virus and it is VERY resilient. I have a friend from church who also has the exact same thing. My friend who also has it and had a relapse, just like me, just had a full set of chest Xrays taken yesterday that confirmed that he did NOT have pneumonia so this is something else.

He had gone through the exact same initial ineffective antibiotic treatment when he first got sick and, like me the medicine did not help, he had a relapse. He is now on the exact same course of medical treatment I am on listed above which was prescribed to him by a totally different doctor and they are slowly working (this is good because it appears the doctors/medical field seem to have a handle on what antibiotics and medicines to prescribe in order to effectively treat it IF THEY GET TO YOU IN TIME). He has also been sick for a long time and is only now starting to recover after nearly four weeks.

I am not being an alarmist, I am only letting you know what has been happening to me in order to help provide some personal first-hand experiential information and to warn you so you can pass on this information. Both of the other doctors I have seen told me that their offices have been inundated with patients suffering from this virulent infection/flu, whatever it is and it has already killed people young and old in our area and it can kill you if your not careful.

I hope the above information proves helpful. Please pass it along to your friends and loved ones and if you or your friends come down with any of the symptoms, get to a doctor ASAP! This is not your typical "cold", or "flu" the doctor described it as "potentially life threatening", it was in my case and some people throughout New England and the Eastern United States have died and are dying as a result:

I personally think that there is no "epidemic" as is being trumpeted by the media. Now, most of the MSN does not write the news but "reports" or rather "repeats" things that "others" gave them to "report."

Someone seems to want the people to believe that they are sick or about to be sick because they didn't get a flu shot, not because flu shots have missed the mark, yet again.

Oh, yes, that and don't notice what's happening in DC, don't pay any attention to the fact that they're spending what we don't have on what we don't need and sending the bill to your grandchildren that haven't even been born; don't pay any attention that they are printing more and more worthless dollars to make yours worth less and less; and lastly, don't pay any attention to the fact that they are about to decimate the Second Amendment because yu and I are just too dangerous to be trusted with weapons, therefore, they'll just help themselves to yours because you don't need to worry, they'll take care of you, just like when we have an influenza "epidemic."

I don’t see any scientific evidence that those getting the flu did not get a flu shot.

Show me that please.
