I don't get it. Why is Iowa a democratic state? My sister says Iowa stands for "Idiots Out Walking Around."

What businesses are in IOWA that are exported to other areas?

Seems there is a FR movement going now, to ban all products, unions etc. that are Democrat leaning.

How can that apply to IOWA?

What I always heard is they vote democrat because they are almost completely reliant of agriculture subsidies. But that never made much sense to me considering that dark red states like Kansas and Nebraska are just as reliant.

Spending too much time out in the sun without a hat?

Misinterpreted the term “free market concepts” for “free cheese and Marxist concepts”?

Iowa now has and has always had a Commie Belt. This is a semi-industrialized region to the North of DesMoines ~ full of union people, farmer's collectives, that sort of thing, and the dregs from the old Amana Colonies where they combined free sex with oppression ~ kind of an early wide ranging S&M operation.

Hope I got that right guys ~ my only connections to Iowa are in the SE where you'all think they speak with a Souvrn' accent.

Simple: They’re idiots. Just like everyone else in this country. They simply don’t realize that free stuff doesn’t come from “Obama’s stash,” but from taxpayers, and that this is not a bottomless well from which we can draw.

Simplest explanation is usually the right one: Most people today are stupid, and some states just flat have more stupid people than others.

They might have a clue when the cost of heating their homes and driving to work drains their wallets. It is coming you IowIdgits and don’t look across the river to Nebraska because we will be in the same sewage boat thanks to you morons. Once the farmers can no longer afford to work their fields because of the price of fuel and trucks no longer run for the lack of it you can look forward to farm collectivization and you city obummer twits will be told to do your civic and democrat party duty by working the fields pulling a plow.

Dumbasses.

Iowa has a large Dem base here in the Des Moines metro as well as some other cities.

Rural areas are generally much more conservative.
Demographically the population has left rural areas and concentrated in urban areas.

Simple as that.

If it is ANY indication, Iowa USED to have 8 Congressional Disticts, then 6, then 5, now 4. Young People get a BELLYFULL of the BULLSH*T that Des Moines, Ames, Waterloo, The “Quad Cities”, Iowa City and Ceder Fall put out and LEAVE. I am SERIOUSLY thinking of telling my ENTIRE “Home State” to KISS MY A$$ and moving(back) to either Nebraska, or Oklahoma or Texas. I HATE THIS DAMN STATE sometimes!

I don’t know. I live not too far from the IA border in MO, and I’m ready to put up a barbed wire fence at the border. Except that those counties nearest me are the red counties. It’s the Des Moines metro area and the quad cities that suck. If the country ever splits, they’ll be stuck in the USSA.

Iowa is 88% non-Hispanic white. Northern states with a high percentage of whites in the population tend to be very liberal. Iowa is sort of northern and sort of midwestern, below Minnesota and also borders Illinois and Wisconsin.

And farm subsidies also probably play a part.

Iowa’s population is increasing.
Iowa’s rural population is decreasing.
Iowa’s urban population is increasing.
Iowa’s under 35 age group population is increasing, and doing so in urban areas.

But then, isn’t this also true in other farm belt states?

And then...

Iowa: “According to the 2010 Census, 91.3% of the population was White (88.7% non-Hispanic white), 2.9% was Black or African American,....”

Nebraska: “According to the 2010 Census, 86.1% of the population was White (82.1% non-Hispanic white), 4.5% was Black or African American,.....”
