Romney Surges to Within Four... In Oregon!
Pundit Press ^ | 5/11/2012 | Matthew

Perhaps you've been to Oregon, the hipster capital of the Pacific rim? The land of Subarus and home to Portland is sometimes seen as a bastion for Democratic and other left-of-center politicians. The state has shifted quite significantly to the left in the last decade, especially as the California exodus continues apace.

So Democrat Barack Obama should be winning by a landslide margin, correct? After all, he won by 16 points in 2008. After his endorsement of gay marriage, he should be surging-- and at least holding the ground he once held.

Instead, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has cut the Obama lead quite significantly. Two months ago, Romney was behind by 11%. That deficit has been cut by nearly 2/3.

And there are mostly white people in Oregon. 1.8% black population. Must be racists.

As long as this stays a two-candidate race, the numbers are a referendum on Obama, not so much a reflection of Romney. Romney can only lose this election, he can’t win it because I believe the country really wants to dump this government of economic depression if it can only be convinced they’ll be better off for changing. If Romney becomes that hope, he’ll win a lot of states that are still liberal. If Romney can’t sell himself as an agent of change, we’re doomed to four more years of Obama.

Jay Severin is right.

It’s going to be a landslide.

“Them liking liberal Mitt”! When are you going to get over it and start doing something to get rid of Obama? You may not be a “Mitt” fan, but the enemy is still Obama. You will have plenty of opportunity to bash “Mitt” after and if he is elected. Meanwhile, focus on saving the nation from Obama.

...............................

Could be! I was pessimistic prior, but Obama’s message is dark evil and destructive, that doesn’t win elections.

If Romney can’t sell himself as an agent of change, we’re doomed to four more years of Obama.

So if Romney is not perceived as an agent of change, they will prefer four more years of the guy who is in charge now? IMO it will be ABO (Anybody But Obama) just like it was in 2008, i.e., Anybody but Bush with McCain being portrayed as the third term of Bush.

As a lifelong Oregonian, how come I didn’t see this in our local papers? Hmmm. The local press here is so corrupt.

Rasmussen five day rolling poll has Obama at 44 and Romney at 50. I wonder what these numbers look like at a state by state level and Electoral College count.

This should be taken as a sign of things to come (if one can believe any of the polls)..Perhaps you've been to Oregon, the hipster capital of the Pacific rim.

I had given up on the west coast as ever being able to elect Republicans to statewide office since the large urban areas control and they are ALWAYS chock full of wacko libtards more worried about illegal aliens and the environment than US Citizens.

Romney’s support of gay adoption seems to be a big selling point among the mushy middle. LOL

Jay Severin is right.

It’s going to be a landslide.

It may well be a landslide. I sure hope so.

Then again, Severin has been a Romney supporter for at least the last five years.

And I remember him gleefully contemplating an Obama win in the 2008 Democratic primary because, as he said, Obama was unelectable. If only.

Obama won Oregon by 16% four years ago. If all the states slide in our direction by 12%, it’s going to be a beautiful election - especially if swing carries through to the down-ticket races. We need to build our majority in the House and take the Senate so decisively that even if Mitt is the liberal I’ve known for twenty years and not the “severe” conservative of the campaign, he’ll have to still govern responsibly. Still, it’s early, and anything could happen between now and the election, or even when Obama’s SEIU people are counting the ballots. We have to make sure we win by such a huge margin that all the dead voters in our cemeteries cannot push Obama and the democrats in Congress over the top.
