Obama Campaign Disables Credit Card Verification [again]

This video is a follow-up to Adrian Murray’s facebook post over the weekend, in which he says that he donated to the Obama campaign as “Adolph Hitler,” occupation “Dictator” living at a German address. As you can see in the clip, citizen journalist George Scaggs of Austin tries the same thing at three different campaign sites, that of Obama, Romney and Santorum. Only the Obama site accepted the donation without the verification number.

Let’s take a look at the three campaign websites mentioned in the video ...

The Obama campaign’s donation page for Americans living outside the US also lacks the security verification code field.

Here’s Mitt Romney’s donation page. I’ve circled the verification number field on it. I would have done the same on Obama’s page, but it wasn’t there.

Only the Obama campaign’s web site lacks the security code field. The others require it, and will not accept donations unless the security code and payment information match up.

Obama’s campaign implemented the same lack of verification in 2008, but the mainstream media never called them on it. It appears as though that episode has prompted a repeat in 2012.

The credit card companies will not process the transaction without the security code.

This is however, a good way to make millions of dollars of illegal contributions look like many millions of legitimate credit card contributions that never even went to the credit card company for clearing, and because of the low transaction amount they are not subject to campaign contribution auditing requirements. The cash they already have on hand from Soros or whoever, gets laundered and shows up in the campaign coffers.

Uh no. The credit card company doesn’t decide whether you need the CCV (security code). That is at the discretion of the merchant.

The scam is that by not verifying the billing information matches the credit card information a user can make hundreds of donations, each below $200, under made up names. This allows them to circumvent the limits on contributions and the laws against foreign donations.

However it is NOT illegal and does not require any action on the part of Zero’s campaign.

They will indeed be making up credit cards numbers up because there will be no oversight or audit afterwards, and using legit cards numbers without the owners knwoledge will raise problems down the line. They will keep track of their legit credit card donations to be able to produce a sampling and say ‘See, check this random sampling, they are all legitimate!’.

Several articles claim the charges go through.
I have no idea how to verify either claim.

IIRC, the FEC decided that in re the 2008 issue, it wouldn’t have changed the election, so no problem. I could be wrong, but that is my memory of it.

Sorry, you’re correct about the CVV, but they could do both scams simultaneously, no? A superficial audit could be responded to with a set of unique legit card numbers as proof of legitimacy, while a software program is generating thousands of bogus contributions that never even hit the credit card companies (seems more likely than someone who wants to donate a $100,000 sitting there and making 500 contributions online). Of course a software program could also be set up to make the 500 legit donations.
