Rush Limbaugh Slams GOP Establishment: ‘We Nominate Milquetoast Moderates And We Lose’
Mediaite ^ | December 14,2011 | James Crugnale

n an exclusive interview with Fox News’s Greta Van Susteren, Rush Limbaugh slammed the Republican establishment for thinking a “conservative nominee is route to defeat” and lamented the top-tier GOP candidates were “milquetoast moderates.” Despite these reservations, he said, “I think right now anybody other than Ron Paul could beat Obama if the election were tomorrow.” “Republican primary voters are conservative, I don’t buy this whole notion that the Republicans can’t be confrontational, can’t be aggressive and can’t go on offense because they will tick off the independents,” Limbaugh opined.

“We’re not supposed to be critical of liberalism and socialism. It makes independents nervous. So what do we do? We nominate milqueoast moderates. And what do they do? They lose!” he added.

“I actually think that if you can get — if you talk to these guys — Republican establishment, elected officials, party officials, certain inside the beltway media, you just ask me can Obama be beat? I say hell yes!” Limbaugh exclaimed. “They will tell you ‘they don’t think so.’ They are scared to death! Nobody won anything defending anything. You win on offense, you win attacking, you don’t win defending anything because you can’t advance. They are always defending. You can’t advance! … I would rather have somebody who thinks Obama can be beat, knows Obama can be beat and wants Obama to be beat. And that is somebody conservative, not moderate, not squeamish, not populist. We don’t need a candidate who’s going to try to say things or be things he or she doesn’t believe or isn’t. I think conservative appeals to everybody.”

The sole purpose of the Republican Party is to serve as an ineffective alternative to the Democrat Party.

Very true.

The National Review is trying to take Newt out as they did with Cain.

STOP TRYING TO DECIDE FOR US, REPUBLICAN ESTABLISHMENT.

Yes, Mitt has money, but a conservative will make Obama look like a fool and remind people of the America of 80’s.

Right, so why not nominate the MOST conservative?

Not only would that mean a sure win, but also a roll-back of the socialist state.

You already know who I mean.

It is becoming exceedingly difficult to remain sane when everything around you is otherwise.

Mitt = milquetoast moderate

Newt is definitely neither. IMHO, as POTUS, Newt, Perry, Bachmann or Santorum would all promote basically the same conservative agenda of limited government, 0bamacare repeal, fiscal, social and national defense conservatism. Therefore, we should nominate the one of these that is a media savvy communicator who is not milquetoast so that we don't lose again.

In my mind, that's Newt.

Really ... Newt threw conservatives under the bus in 1995 and 2009.

How FReepers can support a moderate is beyond me.

Yes, I have fond memories of the Goldwater administration.

The other day I asked a group of Republicans as to who is “the establishment” and I was told, “Rush Limbaugh”.

That’s amazing when you consider that the establishment republican candidates loath Limbaugh.

Rush is right on. Great interview and Gretta gave him the floor.

In spite of the baggage Newt carries he is the most conservative and our only real chance of taking King Obama in any debate. He would not pull punches and his vast knowledge of our Constitution overshadows all the rest of the candidates. As a once insider he has the ability to work the ineffective Federal Government back into shape by challenging the Senate and most of the weak Republicans in the House. We need some one that can be assertive and tough.

The GOP was neutered back in the early 90s when the GOP etablishment partnered with the democrats & MSM to emasculate Lee Atwater, who was guilty of playing the campaign game by the Democrats own rules.

Sort of the Washington Generals vs. the Harlem Globetrotters.

A vote for Romney...Is a vote for McCain.

Romney=Gingrich=McCain=Obama. The only difference is in degree.

We've got Bachmann, Santorum, possibly Perry or third party at this point.

We haven't run a real Conservative since Ronald Reagan. Does anybody seriously think George "Read My Lips, even though I'm lying" Bush ; Bob "Need Viagra to stiffen my backbone" Dole; George "Compassionate Conservative - Because normal conservatives are SCARY" Bush; or John "The media loves me 'cause I act like a democrat" McCain were REAL conservatives???

I honestly can't say whether Rush is right or not, we haven't run anything but milquetoast moderates since 1988...

Rush is right on. Great interview and Greta gave him the floor.

I watched it, it was so good I recorded it to show others. I gathered that Rush feels that we have a good field, not a poor one. ("We're not going to get a perfect candidate") Remember he kept saying that if the election were held today, he is positive Obama would lose.

So am I. I was for Sarah, then Herman Cain, now Gingrich is my choice. It bothers me no end that Newt at some point was on the global warming bandwagon, but I haven't heard him reiterate this belief lately.
