If they must pass a law, state that the legislator must request the law be in force. For example, my congressman wuold have to post signs and make notice that he is a gun free zone. Or the opposite, ability to opt out of the rule.
After all, I will not vote for a policican who does not trust me. I suspect many would lose election if they declared themselves a gun free zone.

Ruling class???? Sounds much like King has forgotten who his bosses are.
I say sequester them in an underground bunker for the duration of each session if they’re that chicken-hearted. They aren’t in touch with the citizens for whom they work anyway.
