Using exaggerated reports of gun smuggling from the U.S. into Mexico as their justification, the agency has filed for an emergency regulation requiring gun dealers to keep track of their customers and file special reports to ATF whenever a customer purchases more than one semi-automatic rifle within any 5-day period. Such special reporting is already required for multiple sales of handguns and has proven to be thoroughly useless as a law enforcement tool.
ATFs requested regulation which is unconstitutional, violates a statutory prohibition against firearms registration schemes and was obviously filed as an emergency simply as a means of bypassing Congress would be temporary, meaning that it would have to be renewed in four or five months, and is said to only apply to gun dealers in states bordering Mexico, though the regulation, as submitted, seems to be missing that specific limitation.
At this point the proposed regulation is awaiting approval from the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs. Political observers will recall that OIRA is headed by President Obamas old friend Cass Sunstein, who famously advocated for the abolition of all hunting and for the extension of legal rights including the right to have a court-appointed attorney to animals.
While Mr. Sunstein is an attorney and college professor specializing, in part, in constitutional law, his record shows that his Constitution does not include the Second Amendment. It is expected that Sunsteins office will approve ATFs Emergency Regulation by the first week of January unless there is immediate and vehement objection from members of Congress and the public.
Snip
The fact is that ATF can present no such evidence in support of their idea, just the suggestion that the proposal sounds reasonable and might be of use. Thats not good enough.

Our constitution is under siege from these communists on all fronts.
Its only a matter of time beforw awb comes back in some form. Get what you need while you can.
Maybe Obama is afraid of other things since it has to do with purchase of multiple units and more states will be red come January than at any time in recent history. After all he was the instigator of the largest political blunder of nearly all time, almost meets the threshold of the repeal of the Missouri Compromise. And of course history shows that’s not all the ruling class did back then in order to shove stuff on folks that they though was morally wrong, and health care isn’t the only thing Oama is doing either.
ATF blew $18 million investigating gun trafficking into Mexico, yielding only a handful of arrests and 12 guns.
There is a toll free phone # for the Capitol Hill operator:
(866) 727-4894. They pick up usually on the first ring. Tell them which member of Congress or the Senate and you’ll be connected promptly if the line isn’t busy (whenever an important issue is being debated.)
Government of Soros, by Soros, for Soros.
Wonder if Congress (both the House and Senate) will ever realize that obastard is slowly but surely devolving all power unto his administration, and that by 2012, they’ll be as meaningful as the “legislature” in his buddy Chavez’s failed state of Venezuela? My bet is that the donk and RINO (really CINO since the GOP is dominated by what we used to call RINOs) leftscum have no clue...

CLOSE THE FRICKING BORDER! - and leave our law-abiding citizens alone!
With a fraction of the money ATF spent you could fund a task force of ICE and CBP, that actually know something about smuggling operations. $18 million would fund a lot of overtime to run outbound inspections with dogs and vehicle backscatter machines.
Guns don’t kill people, people do. Yet Mexico facilitates the smuggling of thousands of these dangerous ‘people’ into America every day.

This is the answer; could be our last chance.
The House of Representatives "holds the purse strings" of this nation. If they refuse to fund something, it withers and dies. The members of the new House, our representatives, need to be told that we expect them to de-fund certain programs and agencies; they are, after all, our representatives.
I don't negotiate with terrorists, foreign or domestic.
You get the impression that they are worried about a popular uprising.
This request has NOTHING to do with keeping guns out of the hands of Mexican drug runners. It is only so that the ATF can build a gunowner database and harass law abiding citizens.
I'm throwing the BS flag here. That wasn't an accident, and it won't be corrected.
Regardless, even if it was, the entire attempt at over-reaching powers is bogus. CLOSE THE G-D BORDER! Leave US Citizens alone. We are not the problem, THE ILLEGALS ARE. That's right, I said it. They are criminals first and foremost. Address that issue, and leave the 2nd Amendment alone, or suffer the consequences.
Seems unnecessary. Big Sis claims borders are the securest as they have ever been. Possibly ATF is not getting the message.
