Critics on Both Sides Be Damned: Run, Sarah
Pajamas Media ^ | November 26, 2010 | Pam Meister

Love her or hate her, Sarah Palin has, within the past couple of years, become an American institution. All the former Alaskan governor has to do is post something on Facebook or give a “shout-out” on Twitter and both pundits and everyday Americans on both sides of the aisle are either singing her praises or talking about what a dumb hick she is who has no business breathing, let alone commenting on the news of the day.

The big question, of course, is whether Palin should run for president in 2012. Here are just a few reasons why a Palin run makes sense:

There is a strong case for Sarah made just from the composition of the Electoral College map, and that is the only thing that matters at the end of the day.

There is no way that Barry is going to carry the same states he did in 2008.

There are Democratic states that Barry will get no matter what and GOP states that Sarah will get no matter what.

The toss up states that Barry won are now leaning GOP.

Florida, the normally Democratic rust belt states, the upper South(Virginia and North Carolina) and now I think even New Jersey and New Hampshire will go GOP.

I even think Illinois and Wisconsin are up for grabs plus New Mexico.

Quite frankly, Sarah Palin is the strongest candidate and the Electoral Map is leaning GOP.

That doesn’t mean the liberal media won’t do everything in its power to destroy her and her family and the GOP won’t self-destruct.

In the final analysis, unless the United States starts growing at 10% and we are at full employment, I don’t see how Barack Obama can recover.

I know people personally despise Barack Obama, but from a cool and logical perspective, his presidency has been pretty weak and flailing.

ansel12 : Personal attacks are not your forte, nor should you aspire for them to be so. You’re better than that. Be constructive. I’m simply trying to point out that it’s reasonable to assume she’ll be more of the same given she was screened by the Republican party machine. Also, we’ve been electing candidates with rosy promises and solid records for decades, but we have 13 trillion in debt, and open borders. What’s different this time?

Windflier : Was not Bush Junior also a distinguished Texas governor before he got elected? I’ll skip Bush Senior. I am more sympathetic to Reagan given he had to work with a Democrat Congress, but did not Reagan do amnesty? Which of the above talked about dismantling the Federal reserve, eliminating the EPA or Education which we got along fine without for almost 200 years? Sarah’s actually come pretty close by mentioning the policies of “the Bernake” are counterproductive.

meadsjn : Ad hominem.

TomServ : Haha!

mas cerveza por favor : So it is something of a crapshoot right now with Sarah, right?

What Republican candidate does not come with many nice speeches, and a track record of success, before they lead us down the road of debt, and open borders?

meadsjn : Ad hominem.

You need to look up "ad hominem". It does not mean what you think it means.

Here is part of what you posted:

what makes us think that Palin is actually the “outsider” that will ...

1) pay off the debt 2) decrease government 3) close the border

To which I responded:

Are you really this ignorant and uninformed? Why are you even on any thread about Sarah Palin if you haven't bothered to listen to anything she has said, or read anything she has written?

My response was not an ad hominem fallacy, or any other sort of fallacy. The items you listed have been discussed multiple times by Sarah Palin, which you would know if you had read any of her writings or listened to any of her speeches. Therefore, my question as to your ignorance or your being uninformed is perfectly logical, in order to exclude the possiblility that you know that you are deliberately implying falsehoods concerning her position on those items, meaning you are being dishonest.

So which is it? Are you ignorant, uninformed, or dishonest?

Great post. More info for your ammo box is that 2011 is a redistricting year, and the GOP made massive gains in control of state legislatures and governors. There is a fantastic interactive map at the NCSL link below:

Map of Post-Election Partisan Composition of State Legislatures

Republicans Make Historic Gains

Republicans have added over 675 seats to their ranks in this election, dramatically surpassing 1994 gains. This number could go even higher as the tallies in the undecided races are determined. The chamber switches thus far are all Democratic to Republican except for Montana House which was tied and is now Republican, and the Oregon House which was Democratic and is now tied. Changes are:

GOP gains
Alabama - House and Senate
Colorado - House
Indiana - House
Iowa - House
Maine – House and Senate
Michigan - House
Minnesota - House and Senate
Montana - House
New Hampshire - House and Senate
North Carolina - House and Senate
Ohio - House
Pennsylvania - House
Wisconsin - Assembly and Senate

Tied : Oregon House; Alaska Senate

One chamber remainsl undecided: New York - Senate

This is the first time in Alabama that Republicans have controlled the legislature since reconstruction. The North Carolina Senate has not been Republican since 1870. And Republicans have reportedly taken over 100 seats in the New Hampshire House. For the first time in history, the Minnesota Senate will be controlled by the GOP.

Continue to check in with us at StateVote 2010 for real-time updates of legislative elections across the country. NCSL's blog The Thicket  is providing analysis of legislative elections and NCSL's blog Prop* 50 offers the most comprehensive information on ballot measures anywhere.

The map below will be updated to show the results of legislative elections. For a map showing party control of state legislatures prior to the election view the Pre-Election Party Control of State Legislatures Map.  The 50 state table shows party composition of state legislatures, governors and state control following the election. (Please note some races are still pending.) 50-State Table of Partisan Control of Governor and Legislature Prior to the 2010 Election (Color-coded table showing partisan control of legislature and governor's party for all 50 states.)

I understand your pessimism. Of all our Republican presidents, only Reagan was a true reformer, who passionately desired to steer the country back to its Founding Principles and practices.

He couldn't pull it off in his time because he didn't have enough similarly passionate Americans in the fight with him. One man cannot do it all alone. Not even from the loftiest perch in the country.

Today, that's not the case. The passionate millions have been galvanized. They're organized. And they've pulverized the ruling class Democrats in their first real test.

We now have a once-in-an-era opportunity to place another passionate patriot in the office of President. This time, that president will have the multitude of Americans required to steer the country back to where the Founders intended it to be.

There is only one potential contender for the office of president who has the desire, the commitment, and the courage to lead the battle to restore this country to its native character, and that is Sarah Palin.

Well, since you are somehow personaly offended about a benign comment I made about palin, I will say this to back up what I said. Harcore liberals, soft liberals, and RINO’s won’t vote for her, so that leaves true conservatives. The best guestimate is that there are 40% of all voting aged people to be conservative, so where do you plan on getting all these winning votes for palin? It ain’t happening and being offended by it and being snarky does not change the facts. No fortune telling needed.

Another uninformed, unprovable biased opinion posted by a PDS sufferer as fact.

Here are some facts for you to chew on, historical facts.

Harris Poll January 29, 1980:

CARTER NOW FAR AHEAD OF BOTH REAGAN AND BUSH

"President Carter so dominates the American political scene now that his margin over Ronald Reagan in a post-Iowa trial heat has risen to an overwhelming 65-31 percent."

Also, Time magazine ran a big story in March of that year basically saying Reagan was unelectable. Gallup had a poll in that time frame with Reagan down 25 points.

Here's another blast from the past, March 10, 1980. The GOP establishment had decided they needed another candidate besides Bush to stop Reagan and started recruiting Gerald Ford:

ABC News - Harris poll: FORD LEADS BOTH CARTER AND REAGAN, ALTHOUGH STILL UNDECLARED CANDIDATE

"Former President Gerald Ford is the first choice of Republican and independent voters to head the GOP ticket, even though he has not yet declared himself a candidate for the Republican nomination.

Ford also leads President Carter among the general electorate."

Here's another one for your collection:

Historic Whispers: Ronald Reagan Had Little Chance of Winning the Primary

White House political strategists have concluded—regretfully—that Ronald Reagan is fading and will have little chance of winning the Republican presidential nomination in 1980. Why the regrets? Because Carter's aides are convinced that the conservative, 68-year-old former California governor is an easy target. (April 2, 1979)

And even the ‘Swills’ and the ‘Narrowbacks’ at the Wilmington Country Club [Dinner jackets REQUIRED for the Gentlemen on Friday and Saturday nights]are attracted to the light.

In short, they can’t help themselves.

And one other thing, since ‘Bar’ had to open her big Blue-Blooded mouth, Jebbie is off the short list for Secretary of State in an upcoming Palin Administration.

John Bolton...COME ON DOWN...YOU’RE THE NEXT SECRETARY OF STATE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA...CONGRATULATIONS!!

And for Jebbie we have the consolation prizes of Z-Brick and a years supply of Turtle Wax Car Polish...Enjoy!!!

This so called “PDS Sufferer” had voted for Palin more times than you ever will. You are acting just like a frothing liberal yelling that someone must be a racist if they are against Obama. Just stop with your labels. I love Sarah Palin, but I also love my wife, who I know could never win the Miss America contest. This isn’t a war, I am not either for her or against her. She is the only true conservative out there right now so she is my ‘team’, but so is the KC Chiefs and I know they won’t make it to the super bowl.

You might be right about RINOs supporting a GOP candidate no matter what, but I have to believe that RINOs like Merkowski will force a third party Ross Perot-like candidate into the mix. That let slick willy get elected with 40% of the vote (I think). Sarah will always have my money/support/votes, but I just am not convinced that the left’s relentless character assasination won’t take its toll.

All this is sort of silly anyway. I don’t even believe she will run. I think she is threatening to run, to force others to step up and be conservative. I live not to far from her and Todd and I hear things that make me think she won’t run. However, if a country calls, that could change anything.

If she gets the nomination I will bet you any amount of money that I have that she gets more than 30 percent of the vote. Any amount.

Unless the RINOs introduce a Ross Perot into the mix.

It’s been a great two years of watching how much She has grown, and the way she fights.

idesign, that is what Americans like. We Americans, as a people, still have a bit of the wild west in us. We love to root for the underdog and really like those who speak their minds.

I see all the arm chair prognosticators here offering their take and just sigh. If NOTHING other than the following sinks into their heads, I would be happy.

The American voter is a fickle thing. (See: _resident Idiot) There is no way this far out that you can be making comments about the percentage of the electorate Palin will get. There is no way ANYONE can, with any certainty, predict what will happen if she decides to run. From everything we have seen so far from her, she is truly the Anti-Establishment candidate. She follows her own playbook which is written by her, piece by piece, day in, day out.

Personally, I hope she runs, she has my vote. As for the question of who would get my vote if she ISN'T the candidate, well, that is up in the air. I WON'T vote for Romney, nor Huckabee. So I guess it is up to the anyone else who decides to run whether their principles and backbone will get my vote.

Time for a tagline change . . .

Romney is going to run, for shizzle.

We need to gather together and support NOT-ROMNEY in the primaries. Because the evangelicals who didn’t support him last time will not support him this time and he can’t win the general without them.

But I’m afraid he might get the nomination if opposition to him is divided amoung the other candidates.

And we better make sure NOT-ROMNEY can win the general.

It is of primary (ha ha no pun) importance that our pres. be given the gate in Jan 2013.

Whether or not we call go down and say “hey hey goodbye” can be decided after the election.

I would take Palin to do beter than 30 percent in a threeway race with Odumbsky and Myth Romney. I can’t imagine Myth getting more than 15 percent, if that. Why would any lib vote for him when they can vote for the Comrade, the genuine article? And by 2012, with the economy in freefall, the Comrade should be down to the blacks and the nose-ring crowd (and his base of 100 fake conservatives like Mona Cahren and Kathleen Parker and that a^^hole at the NY Times) and that’ll be about it—maybe 30 percent.

In fact, I wish Palin would just tell these RINOs where they can stick it TODAY, announce an independent run, because why waste another minute or dollar on the Repukes.

And by the way, she’ll have all the money actually contributed by American voters. Myth’ll have his own bank account to keep depleting, and Comrade al Odumbo will be back overseas begging for more jihadi and commie backing, and tapping Soros for another hit on the pipe.

Palin-Romney-Obama?

Palin gets more than 30 percent. Easily. Book it.

(And BTW: the other Repukes you could mention wouldn’t have Romney’s dough so they would do even worse. I mean, who is gonna contribute ANY money to the Republican Party if they are running AGAINST Sarah Palin? Nobody, that’s who. Because Sarah Palin is ALL the Repukes have at this point. That’s it.)
