Google Veterans Day Controversy: American Flag, Islamic Crescent Moon Doodle Sparks Internet Outrage

Motifs of the American flag have become a regular addition to Google's artistic repertoire celebrating patriotic holidays but today's Veterans Day doodle has sparked a measure of controversy.

In the past Google personified its doodle with red, white and blue letters but the addition of an Islamic crescent moon-looking "e" has all the Internet abuzz.

Tweets via Twitter have included a broad range of hostile opinions about 'Old Glory' appearing with the shadow of a stylized Islamic crescent moon--especially on Veterans Day. The Google doodle is definitely stirring up fears of fanning the flames of anti-Islamic sentiments in America. Was that what Google intended?

Reactions on Twitter have ranged from shock to disappointment at Google's choice of doodle designs for Veterans Day.

LaughTech on Twitter enlarged the logo and set its caption as "Google says, 'Happy Veterans Day, Islam'".

AdrianTweeting makes a similar observation: "The Veterans Day Google logo kind of makes the "e" on the end look like a sinister Islamic crescent lurking behind the flag. Unfortunate.

Just one question. Is the “e” the same font as it has always been, or did they purposely reshape it to look like a crescent?

Same font, at that, if you look at the original logo, it is clear it is just the normal "e".

Thank you! Even if this crazy conspiracy theory was true, in the end the American flag is still standing, regardless of the "explosion," and it's trumping the "crescent." So what the hell?

(Was kinda funny that this topic is loony enough to even drag out the "TV is the mostest evilist thing ever" guy.)

Well said. I agree.

At the very least the left needs to take people’s sensitivities into account on a day like Veterans Day. The left wants everyone else to walk on eggshells in the things they say and express...they need to be forced to walk on eggshells themselves. This is healthy pushback.

The flagpole takes the place of the L. I doubt they meant it to be a crescent. Probably just a blunder. If you look at that graphic through the lens of a game of rock, paper, scissors it would mean we win :-)

That flag has more than thirteen stripes.

That’s not even our flag.

It’s the tail end of the “e”.

Somebody needs to look at upping your methadone dosage.

Google being disrespectful to muslims - there's a twist I didn't see coming. Could it be he's being ironic?

n a civilized society we need to show respect. We show respect by opening the door for the elderly. We show respect by thanking a soldier for fighting for us. We show respect by saluting the flag when in uniform. We show respect by not desecrating someone's sacred symbol.

Wow, so some random, psycho blogger wrote some psycho crap, and we’re calling it News now???

Bloggers’ so-called “news” has sunk below the level of MSM, if that’s possible.
