The Chinese will now claim the floor of the oceans as theirs.

Obama’s backing of the UN control of the sea starts to suddenly make sense. Once he turns over control of the oceans to the UN they can hand out the mining rights to their cronies in exchange for enormous bribes.

And our political elites want the sea beds to be controlled and taxed by the UN.

Including Sarah Palin.

This is why the idea of asteroid mining is so abjectly silly. There’s no dilithium or Naquita or unobtanium you can only get from asteroids that you can’t get from earth, and as incredibly expensive as ocean floor mining may be, it’s trivial compared to asteroid mining.

Yep. They were claiming this back when I was in junior high school in 1966. Might as well be on the moon though, given the cost to lift them to the surface and ship them to shore. Too bad we’ve never been able to get that teleporter thingy from “The Fly” to work right; that sure would solve a lot of problems.

Doesn’t the writer know that poor Mother Earth can’t compensate for the bad, wasteful humans that drive SUVs and fly in jet planes. Now only do they use up the natural resources they are destroying Ghia by roasting her with climatic warming.

Thanks decimon! And not even minerals — the gas hydrates and clathrates would supply our hydrocarbon needs for thousands of years. I read about a known deposit off North Carolina that was equal to the entire natural gas use for the US for one year.
