Well it looks like another domino is falling in the chain of tax-raising Democrat autocracy that is government most anywhere in Delaware, with city, county, state and federal government all solidly in the hands of tax more, borrow more, spend more Democrat politicians...
On the heels of Wilmington Mayor Baker's promise that the city government will raise "taxes, fees, and anything we can," now comes blow #2 to the double-taxed Wilmington residents, as well as a blow to all other home and property owners in New Castle County: a WHOPPING 25% increase in property tax rates.
COONS SEEKS 25% PROPERTY TAX HIKE The News Journal March 18, 2009 [Delaware Online]
"If approved by city council, the tax hike would be the second biggest in county history and would raise an extra $21 million to help balance the $234 million budget for the 2010 fiscal year that begins July 1..."
News that Chris Coons intends to jack up property taxes on us all to make his political accomodations is no surprise. He is a personally very-rich Democrat, freshly re-elected, making a tidy six-figure paycheck on the public's backs while trying to carve himself out an incumbency career in Delaware politics.
Property taxes are but pocket change to someone as wealthy as Coons.

Ah the truth about Coons start being told in Delaware. Well done!
Ah the truth about Coons start being told in Delaware. Well done!
Well, that won’t make the voters happy.
>>>Chris Coons is not fiscally conservative on this or anything else<<<
His ad boasts that he balanced the budget and maintained the AAA credit rating - Actually he kicked the can down the road a bit with the massive tax increases (don’t forget sewer raised 10% and ‘voluntary’ light 28% increases)- he is rapidly depleting NCC reserves and will have it bankrupt in 2014!
People who vote for liberal Democrats are either on the dole, or airheads. Which is it with the voters of Delaware.
Raised taxes not once, not twice, but three times. He inherited a surplus, but....
In the highest density areas of the city, 60%+ of the residents are renters so they don’t care (mind you they are also the least motivated to vote unless zero himself is on the ticket). As someone who owns rental property in Wilmington (and would now never advise anyone to do it), my opinion is that it is a cess pool of corruption like every other Democrat run city in this country. Again, just in my opinion, the department of licence and inspection is full of crooks who themselves own property and renovation companies on the side and don’t enforce the standards for their own properties that they will hound you to death for on yours. Just try to do anything like renovate a run down property in this town and see how miserable these guys will make your life at every turn.
But, but, but O’Donnell took too long to pay off her student loans!
Funny how renters think they are not impacted by property tax increases...kind of explains why so many of them will always be renters. Anyway, it is great to see the facts getting out on this Coons character...hopefully there will be much more to come...after all he is a democrat.
Nice!
