I have been a minor participant at Free Republic, the Internets leading conservative forum, since September 2004. An online friend referred me to a discussion where members of Free Republic were talking about the 1952 and 1956 presidential elections, and using my maps from this page to make a point. I had to join FR to introduce myself to that group, and thank them for visiting. Because that was right after the Rathergate scandal, I thus became one of the Pajamahadeen that had just brought down the Sauronic eye of CBS.
Being a Freeper has been an interesting and fun experience, but I am disturbed by a current trend on those boards. For the past few weeks, at least since the latest fundraising drive ended, I have noticed that every new thread begins with a picture or video reminding us that Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor and presidential candidate, supports abortion. It doesnt matter what the topic is, the anti-Mitt material pops up.
Personally, I think our current priorities ought to be making sure President Obama and his leftist pals dont force their health care plan down our throats, and defeating as many moonbats as possible in next years congressional and gubernatorial elections, especially Harry Reid, Barbara Boxer, Chris Dodd and Slobbering Barney Frank. Then in 2011 or 2012 we can fight over who we want for the presidency. Consequently, yesterday I posted the following on the Kentucky board:
Is anyone else getting sick and tired of the Mitt Romney bashing that goes on at the beginning of each new thread? Granted, he may not be conservative enough for most of us (my first choice for 2012 would probably be Sarah Palin or Duncan Hunter), but he just HAS to be better than the Chicago mob that rules Washington now. Somebody ought to tell Jim Robinson that BHO and his cabal are the real enemy, not Mitt. Sheesh, an outside observer looking at us now is probably getting the impression that Republicans eat their own. And as for Mitt Romney being a Mormon, well, Im more concerned about Harry Reids Mormon faith. Does he HAVE any?
Four replies have appeared since then, and only one agrees with me. The others just said we ought to do whatever we can to make Mitt Romney unelectable. I guess Im going to take a timeout from Free Republic. Hopefully the Freepers will be acting more sensibly when I return. Bye, see you guys next year.
The list - I forgot about that. I have to dig around and see if I can find it.
I was not kicked off FreeRepublic, even though I said I would vote for rudy.
Fighting Obama and his leftist cohorts includes identifying any and all ‘pretenda Republicans’ like Juan/Snake/Maverick McCain.
If pissant is referring to posters that source facts about Mitt Romney’s record and past liberal-leaning stances (re: his term bashing), that IS a crucial aspect and factor in fighting the leftists. It’s called sharing of information.... and that’s never a bad thing. At least, not for those who are looking for enlightenment.
I’m frankly surprised at the announcement that he’s ‘leaving FR’. Usually, in the past and on leftist-leaning sites, I have only seen lefties make such pronouncements. Most posters on the right always simply stop posting, since they don’t CARE if anyone notices that they’re gone (myself included).
Worst. Opus. Ever.
It happened. We even kept a list on that thread that was cited above. There were dozens.
Many of them “fell on their own grenades”, but the purges were real.
Looks like the RINO sympathizers have their catch phrase. How many times have certain freepers said this exact same thing, especially when talking about McCain, Romney and Huck?
Damn....good catch. Maybe pissant is really Rove in cyber-disguise.
Brilliant bastard!
Some weren’t, but many were...we call it the “Rudy Purge.”
FWIW I wasn’t a Rudy supporter myself, but I think the whole thing got out of hand.
Yeah, it IS JimRob’s site, and I respect that, but shouldn’t conservatives of all stripes be able to discuss things?
You may be right. After all, his mother took the libertarian position, too, and he may have been influenced by that.
You know, as Mormon, I don’t smoke because I think it is morally wrong, as well as just stupid. But I don’t believe in the law stepping in to stop other people from doing it. I don’t take that position with abortion, because I believe in protecting the unborn child. But I know some very staunch Mormons (usually men who have never carried a baby) who don’t get as worked up over abortion as I do, and would take the libertarian position, even though they would never have any part of it in their own lives.
But, there’s also no getting around the fact that Romney consistently counseled women in his ward and stake not to have abortions because it was wrong, and got slammed in the press for doing it. He took the pro-life position when there was an actual life at stake. Is that being pro-life? He just didn’t want the government to stop them. That’s not being pro-abortion. It’s being libertarian.
As to his position in Massachusetts, somebody else on this thread defended Reagan for SIGNING an abortion bill, not just pledging not to touch the law. They defended him because he had a Democrat legislature who could override the veto. To me, that would have been an argument FOR vetoing the bill. He was already elected. He could have vetoed it as a pro-life statement, if he felt that strongly about it at the time.
Romney was trying to get elected in a pro-choice state, where the Democrat legislature would have made any attempt to change abortion law impossible. That’s why taking the position that he wouldn’t attempt to change abortion law was a no-brainer. I just didn’t like the apparent enthusiasm with which he went about it.
You are spinning in the wind - comparing RR to Mitt - in ANY WAY! The wannabes always want to attached themselves to the real deal!
So yes, if it was my site, if I was the host, I'd kick your ass out and tell you to take your whining self-pity-party elsewhere. Learn some manners and THEN come back to talk politics. I haven't seen you talk politics ONCE on this thread. All I've seen you talk is self pity masquerading as cynicism.
Uh....huh??? You call that jumping on you? Damn...I keep forgetting how tender some of the posters here still are.
On the contrary, observations AND debate/arguing is welcome here. Most freepers enjoy the art of 'debate' almost as much as I do. I've never hesitated to do any or all of the above and as you notice, I'm still here.
If you want to disagree, go for it. Just don't expect everyone to agree WITH you and if/when they don't, don't run away screaming like a little girl.
B/S. RomneyCare is big government forcing its will on a formerly free people. It’s anti-American, anti-free-markets, anti-Liberty and unconstitutional. Listen to the Reagan tape. RomneyCare is the socialism he’s talking about. RomneyCare = ObamaCare. No difference.
Government is not the solution, it IS the problem!!
Free Republic will not support gun grabbing, abortionist, gay rights pushing, big government socialist RINOS!!
In fact we will actively campaign AGAINST them!!
Take a freaking hike if you don’t like it.
>>>”Now, if youre not a Creationist, Mitt-Hating, Rudy-Hating, Bible-Thumping, Science-Hating, JimRob worshipping, TV-hating turd, youre not welcome.”
I dunno...
Im not a Christian or a creationist. I dont own a bible to “thump” and I happen to love science. To me, Jim is some guy who operates a web site that I choose to frequent and I love my TV! I just dont love everything thats on every channel that cable has to offer.
I use profanity, although I try to mask it and self censor to a degree but sometimes I screw up and I have been threatened with banning if I didn’t stop. I stopped... And im still here, at least until I call someone a @#$! @(@#@!! again..
LLS
Thank you, Jim.
You could probably come up with dozens of names of people that felt very uncomfortable on FreeRepublic trying to support a pro-gun control, pro-abortion candidate, but I'd be interested in seeing a couple of names of people that "got the heave-ho for disagreeing".
