Hill Street Blues was one of my favorite television programs. I watched it religiously each week.

Moreover, it was a favorite of my Philadelphia Police Department colleagues. The characters, the chaos of the district headquarters (called precincts in other cities); the challenges of the bureaucracy and the politicos, all of these resonated with cops. Not since Wambaugh had there been such realism.

Yet, there existed in the plots certain themes that were disconcerting. There was a subliminal promotion of a certain philosophy.

The most obvious example was that of Lt. Howard Hunter, the commander of the SWAT team (called EATERS in the show). Hunter was the civil libertarians ...

Loved "Hill Street Blues" but the absolute best cop show ever written and produced has got to be "The Wire".

Covered everything from the corner kids up to the politicians.

Brilliant show...

This use of the media to promote liberal causes has been going on for decades. Paul Muni in “I was a Fugitive from the Chaingang” started things off by depicting a wrongly convicted man who escapes captivity and makes a “good” life for himself, only to be dragged back for punishment came out in the ‘30s. Follow that up with the ‘40s “Knock on any Door” with Humphrey Bogart where society is blamed for juvenile delinquency. It is the necessity of liberals to blame anyone but the perpetrator for crimes done (except of course when the perpetrator is a member of the power elite, then he is evil incarnate) that persists today in blaming man for climate change, government for wars against aggressors, etc.

So far, NCIS seems to have a conservative bent. I assume Donald Bellasario is an America-loving producer.

I was proud of one episode in which Gibbs' team was trying to catch a sniper who was targeting Marine recruiting offices. Gibbs (Mark Harmon) went undercover as the recruiter as bait for the sniper. A Marine officer asked Gibbs to be a allowed to stay for the operation. Gibbs replied "Sir, your job is to protect the American people. Our job is to protect you."

I can just imagine a libtartd approach to that scene: "Sir, your job is to kill innocent women and children in the middle east. Our job is to protect you."

IIRC Donald Bellasario left the show a number of years ago.

Actually it precedes those fine examples. You can go back to the dime novels of the late 19th Century and how they made a hero of Jesse James.

You sound like the type of person who would like Creative Conservatives Corner on Facebook. Several freepers are already fans of the page.

He no longer produces it, but he created it, and the show is till true to the original concept. They still have middle east terrorists as the bad guys.

The episode to which I referred earlier was from season 1 or 2.

This was another show that allowed people to get to know and care about the characters in it. It allowed development and depth.
The worse cop show is “ law and Order” and the variants. I dont think there is a police department as Liberal as the one shown on that show. It started out as a great show but slowly sank in the swamp of Politics. Now it is just a forum for liberal crap-speak.
The show that really was great was “The Shield”.

Good article, post, and points, Mike. Thanks for showing the subtle plots of propagandists taking place every day in “entertainment”. Thanks for supporting and giving amplification to others.
