Here is video of Civil Rights Hero Rev. Joseph Lowery giving the benediction at President Barack Obama's inauguration today. At the very end of the benediction, Lowery prayed for the day when "black would not be asked to get back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead man, and when white would embrace what is right. Let all those who do justice and love mercy say 'Amen.'"
With all due respect to Rev. Lowery, his prayer for "white" people to do what is right is a good one. But it is a prayer that should be offered for all races of people, "to do what is right." And doing "what is right" just might begin with NOT using an inaugural benediction as a platform to single out one race of people for criticism. Rev. Lowery should be admired for his life-long struggle for equality for African-Americans, but this prayer was unfortunate in that it was used as a vehicle to criticize "white" people, a majority of whom voted to elect Barack Obama as President of the United States. How ironic that Lowery prayed for the day when "black would not be asked to get back," just minutes after Barack Obama became the President of the United States.

He loves rich white people... didn’t you see the pic of the private jets parked on the runway of Dulles? There were so many a runway had to become a parking lot!!
that was my 1st thought
old racist
The Rev.Lowery is a Racist Bigot and I can see what we will have to face over the next 4 years.
This was an obvious reference to the protest song "Black, Brown and White," written by left-leaning blues singer Big Bill Broonzy and recorded in 1948 by Pete Seeger (Charter Records #C 40). Given its provenance, the song is probably not well-known in the conservative community.
Dear Mr.Lowry,
I pray for the day when I will be judged by the content nof my character, and not by the color of my skin. Somehow I do not think that will happen during your time, though

Just a white American
I’d expect better work from my eighth-grade son. What banal rubbish this man spouts.
bravo!
This knucklehead ended Obama’s day on a sour note for sure. I heard it live on the radio and was quite pissed off. The Dems always bring up the race card. It’s amazing the things they get away with.
I’ve been guilty of offering insincere prayers to the Creator of the Universe, and I’ve been corrected. I hope this man is brought to a place where he must examine the state of his own heart & repent for offering a prayer to God that didn’t seem to be really a prayer, but an opportunistic slight towards a whole race of people who were also created by that very same God. May God deal with him and all those who would use His name & a prayer to disparage others. If you think our whole race is evil then say it to our faces, but don’t use the guise of humble prayer in a shameful, cowardly act of venting your vitriol.
I thought it was like watching a rerun of Laugh In or Flip Wilson. Such a dated out-of-touch view of race relations.
He was so cute, though, I found it hard to be too upset about it. He clearly thought he had said something “solid.”
You know somewhere out there, Rev. Wright was steaming. That was his gig, and he was all set to hit the inauguration with a couple of his greatest hits, maybe a “US of KKK” followed up with his classic “America’s Chickenssss. Are Coming Home. To Roost.”
Joseph Lowery turns 94 today!
