Very good. Have it on DVD and watch it often.

Our family always watches "Independence Day" on the week of the 4th of July. The speech by Bill Pullman always brings me to the verge of tears.

Hey, I LIKED Howard The Duck! :D Especially the guy who played the Scientist possesed by the Dark Overlord (believe he confessed recently he was into kiddie porn). He (and Lea's rear-end) stole the movie.

The most disturbing sci fi movie I saw as a kid was a thing called "Equinox".About a satanic book that was found and Satan trying to get it back.Scared the s##t out of me for some reason.

"The Last Man on Earth", starring Vincent Price.  Based on the book "I Legend".  Remade as "The Omega Man".  This movie was obviously one of the inspirations for George A. Romero's "Night of the Living Dead".  For years after I first saw it as a kid, I could still hear the dead vampires, or whatever they were, calling "Morgan.  Come out Morgan".  Finally found it on one of those cheapo DVD's about a year ago.

Same here.  The 4th is just not the same unless we see this one.

Forbidden Planet, particularly regarding the time in which it was made, stands as a classic. It's usually the first to my mind; may be the movie that made me love SF.

That movie really gave me the creeps as a kid. Left me with a creepy feeling about the higher elevations... and fog in them. It's got the creep factor.

I think the word I'm looking for is... CREEPY!

The Monitors. Aliens try to convince us they're here to save us from ourselves. Actually an early (1969) SCTV incarnation.

Between Time and Timbuktu Hard-to-find Vonnegut collage. My favorite scene: the planet where the police have to wear heavy boots and thick goggles to "make it fair".

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (Original)

Invaders from Mars

Day of the Triffids

Clockwork Orange

Carnival of Souls

Plan 9 from Outer Space

Donnie Darko

The Last Man on Earth

Of course, Star Treks, Star Wars, The Prisoner, Outer Limits, Hammer House of Horror, One Step Beyond, Twilight Zone (OK, some are TV but oh well)

How could I forget-TIME AFTER TIME? A classic. Combined H.G. Wells & his time machine with Jack the Ripper-and a LOT of thought went into it.

Alien

Best ever no questions asked.

Often imitated, never matched. Not only one of the greatest sci fi movies of all times, but one of the greatest movies period.

I agree with your Planet of the Apes selection. I saw it when I was a kid and it stuck with me more than any Disney movie.

Too bad Elvis didn't make a sci-fi flick. I mean it! That white jumpsuit would have been a perfect costume.
