Libertarians Look for a State to Call Their Own. (Free State Project)
The Everett Herald (WA) | 2/23/2003 | reprint from the Baltimore Sun

Edited on 02/23/2003 7:57:03 AM PST by Admin Moderator. [history]

Plans are under way for an invasion of New Hampshire. Or Wyoming. Or maybe Delaware, Montana or Alaska. Sparsely populated and independent in spirit, they're all attractive targets for a certain bloodless coup in the making.

Within the next several years, according to the plan, 20,000 Libertarians would move to a single state and begin infiltrating. They'd get jobs, join civic groups, get elected and take a hatchet to taxes and laws. In this utopia called the Free State Project, schools would be severed from the state, gun-control laws abolished, drugs legalized, health and social services privatized, and most federal aid rejected. Government's only job would be to protect against "force and fraud."

A flame-war instigator.

Apparently the mods don't have an issue with that. The poster participates in a private email alert list to ping other flamers to threads like this to foment trouble on this site, and the management lets it go by without a blink. But if you flame back, you're headed for ban land. It is rumored that one of them is a mod.

Yep. Just a bunch of free-loaders.

1. Let's go find an area of undeveloped land, purchase it and build a Libertarian city. Nah.

2. Let's raise money and purchase the assets of a state government. Nah.

3. Let's move in mass to a small state with an existing infrastructure and vote control of it's resources over to overselves. Yeah, that's the ticket. Pass the bong.

That would not suprise me in the least. Four years worth of posting here and I got side-lined for a couple days for the first time just last month.

Meanwhile, the 'Bots can run this place right into the ground.

Yep. That whole buying property and working within a system to affect change is just so much CHEAPER. It's damn near free.

Looks like you need remedial mathmatics and economics classes as well as a reading comprehension course.

I must have completely missed the part where they would move into an area as squatters.

Don't be a jackass. You are really making yourself look like a complete liar.

The free lunchers won't chose to purchase state assets.

Exactly. -- The 'mods' told us ALL, - just a week or two ago, - to take the flames & disruption to the back room. Since then, only the usual suspects have been suspended. - Typical.

I knew this stuff was going on here at FR these days. This is horrendous.

Does Jim Rob know? I can't believe he'd approve of this. Not unless the govt has been leaning on him a lot harder than has been reported.

If this is what this place is coming to....

He is the email alert custodian

We've advanced far beyond that, now we just use telepathy to manage our conspiracy.

He is a Republican. You must be proud of him. But hey, he skin isn't blue.

The GOP tried to drum Duke out of the party, but the ACLU (concerned only with Duke's civil rights I am sure ) filed suit and won.

Let's suppose for a moment that a swarm of Libertarian migrants does make the move instead of just daydreaming about it. What do you think will happen to the public roads?
