Video shows the moment the OceanGate Expeditions submersible began its doomed voyage to the Titanic wreck in selfie footage posted to TikTok.

Abbi Jackson, a 22-year-old videographer employed by the company onboard the mothership, Polar Prince, shared the short video before the vessel disappeared.

The post, captioned 'watching a submarine go down to the Titanic' pans away from the ship's deck to show Titan on the surface of the Atlantic Ocean some distance away.

Miss Jackson also filmed one of the sub's passengers, Paul Henri Nargeolet, who has been dubbed 'Mr Titanic' for visiting the wreckage 37 times. The 77-year-old is seen sitting on the side of an inflatable boat before waving and smiling at the camera.

Miss Jackson has since shared her thoughts on the missing sub on Instagram, where she thanked well-wishers for their concern and asked them to pray for the five people who remain missing under the Atlantic.

Also on board were British billionaire explorer Hamish Harding, 58, UK-based businessman Shahzada Dawood, 48, and his son Sulaiman Dawood, 19, and OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush.

Hey Al Gore, do you have a picture of Abbi Jackson, or are you so obsessed with Greta that you’re going to keep posting that picture of her?

Yep, young kids without experience. What could possibly go wrong?

> Yep, young kids without experience. <

That just might be the key point. Pick older folks with tons of knowledge and experience. Or pick younger folks with plenty of enthusiasm, but no experience.

The OceanGate people evidently went with the latter option. That’s stupid, but it’s not at all unusual. We see it everywhere.

As a side note, I taught for many years in an urban public school district. Our principals were seasoned people, with decades of experience. Then things changed. New principals were appointed. They had little to no experience in urban education.

That’s when things really fell apart.

Two prevailing theories:

1. Sub imploded about two hours into the mission.
2. There was a fire on board.

There were many problems with this vessel:

- Supporting staff was all under age 30 with little or no sub experience.
- The 5-inch-thick carbon-fiber material was never fully tested at 4000 meters depth.
- There were no gas safety monitors on board to check O2 and other gas levels.
- There were no extra oxygen tanks and masks on board.
- 96-hour life support system was never tested with a full crew on board.
- The hatch could only be opened from the outside.
- There was no emergency transponder in the vessel.
- PlayStation joystick to control the vessel was wireless and there was no back-up system if it failed.
- Communications system was not voice capable and had a tendency to black out.

So basically, it was an underwater coffin.

The more I read about how that sub was constructed, the more I suspect those passengers are toast!

I have never been a fan of wireless.

My “landline” has had 99.999% uptime I wish my datacenters did.

Alternate explanation: Could have one of the members of this expedition decide to stay down with the titanic and take the rest with him?

If it imploded they won’t find wreckage or bodies. Steel in USN submarines is designed to combat brittle fracture and fatigue cracks. I don’t have a clue about carbon fiber. Implosion is nearly instantaneous, suffocating not so much. Prod the bull enough times you get the horn. Still a damn shame though.

Somebody here was saying that the boat used pure oxygen for breathing. Is that the case? Like Apollo One?

I don't know if the boat generated pure oxygen for breathing. But one theory is that there was too much oxygen in the sub and it became a fire hazard, like Apollo One.

So they’re giving up already... What else could a ‘French’ robot do, other than surrender?

Indications of an implosion? This isn’t a movie. When you are out of air you are out of air.
