65 Million Americans Should Threaten to Not Pay Taxes Until democracy is restored
Time Magazine ^ | December 6, 2016 | Mark Weston

Posted on 12/06/2016 6:26:00 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

The approximately 65 million Democrats who voted for Hillary Clinton should pledge that in the future if a Republican wins the presidency with fewer votes than a Democrat for the third time in our era, we won’t pay taxes to the federal government. No taxation without representation!

Twice in the past 16 years, a Republican candidate who finished second in the popular vote has won the presidency. This year, Donald Trump won the electoral vote with about 46% of the popular vote, while Hillary Clinton received about 48%. If the parties stay this evenly divided, another electoral mishap is more likely than not in the next 20 years.

Most Republicans are quite content with this system. Appeals to fairness have not persuaded them of the need to amend the Constitution to establish direct presidential elections, preferably with a runoff if no one wins 50% of the vote. Nor does the real chance that a Democrat could win the presidency with fewer votes than a Republican alarm them. Even the taunt, “Are you afraid of a direct election? Can’t you win a straight-up vote?” doesn’t faze them. Democrats must, therefore, pester Republicans where it hurts: the pocketbook.

Is signing a pledge to not pay taxes legal? Yes, if no overt act of conspiracy is involved, and the pledge itself is hypothetical. No one knows when or if it would be carried out....

By this time next month they'll be openly calling for civil war, at this rate.

We’re a Republic, not a democracy.

I wish they’d do that. The Lois Lerner types would look the other way, I’m sure....

If they didn’t like the rules of the electoral college before the election, why didn’t they try to change it? Didn’t obama and the democrats have both houses of congress and the White House at one time? They’re such pathetic losers.

What a shame time magazine (I’m told it still exists somewhere-?) apparently thinks we live somewhere (where???) other than the USA. Suggest they read the American constitution and a good high school political science or American history book (might need to get an older one to make up for what today’s screwalls are doing to our kids nowadays).

The tax on not having health insurance is a tax on what?

A tax on nothing.

“Even the taunt, “Are you afraid of a direct election? Can’t you win a straight-up vote?” doesn’t faze them.”

I’m too busy laughing at your pathetic, whining asses to be fazed, sorry.

I don’t remember hearing any objections to the Electoral College when one MSM fool after another bragged about the Electoral “Blue Wall” that would assure Hillary’s victory. Maybe I missed their proclamations about the unfairness of the system back when they thought they had it rigged in their favor.

I’m tired of wussy liberal writers suggesting what other people should do. The author should lead by example.

Most democrat voters are welfare parasites and don’t pay federal taxes anyways. This is for the majority of democrat voters an empty threat. The rest of the democrats are usually federal employees voting their financial interest, and I’m okay with them going to prison if they commit the same crime as Al Capone went to prison for. Good riddance.

Do democrat FSA voters even pay taxes?

How will they get their Earned Income Tax Credit if they don’t file?

Just would like to point out that no one has ever won against the IRS for just not paying taxes.

Gee. That’s not going to do them much good for their ‘free healthcare’ if no one pays for it.

But yeah, I know, it’s like, ‘free’ and stuff...

I could threaten not to pay taxes until the illegal Dept. of Education is abolished and my airhead local Rat Congressperson resigns. My threat is just as effective as this idiot’s article.
