Free tampons would slow flow of gender inequality
Daily Bruin [UCLA] ^ | July 20, 2015 | Zoey Freedman

To most government officials, feminine hygiene products are a luxury item. But, every day, women are being poisoned by their own bodies because they lack access to even the most essential health products.

Meanwhile, most men have no problem getting covered for pills that will help them get a boner.

Although still greatly outnumbered and underpaid compared to their male counterparts, women have made so much progress. Yet inequality still lies in the most basic areas of human well-being. Women are still facing unequal treatment when it comes to health care and are paying out of pocket for necessary female health products, particularly tampons and pads.

Not only that, they or she fails to mention that women will spend $300 on a Coach Purse or $200 Vera Wang wallet or $800 for the latest cell phone. Or that expensive makeup they wear. But Complain about the cost of a feminine hygiene product a 'tampon'. Might as well complain about the cost of your deodorant, which both sexes need and pay for, for "hygiene" reasons.

Never heard of such stupidity growing up, as I'm in my 6th decade nearly at the 7th, I've seen my share of the progress of feminine body function products. Our ancestors used moss, rags, and other such items long before standardized feminine products were produced.

Shut up and pay for your own feminine hygiene products. Because that is what it is HYGIENE.

Oh, and keep those strong smelly body washes, sprays, and perfumes in your own home, instead of polluting the air I have to breathe, because your over use of them I can smell 6 feet away and makes it hard for me to breathe.

He's a very humble man. He provides jobs as well as low cost napkins for dirt poor women.

He's definitely changed their lives for the better.

When it comes to menstruation, leftwing women go to two extremes. They either rail against it as some unfair patriarchal curse, or they elevate it and worship it in a nutcase Gaia-inspired fashion.

Disposables came out around the time I went through puberty, but my mom, who was older when she had me, started me out with those uncomfortable elastic belts, LOL.

I hope each candidate, in the debate, is asked by Fox mods, their stance on this urgent need. ///sarc

Should be good for a few chuckles.

I don’t think she’s such a bad writer. The topic she chose, is the only thing I need to know about her.

Flaming radical left wing moonbat.

The author is correct: tampons are luxury items. Why else would MHP wear them as jewelry?

In the developing world, they found that in many areas, building enclosed, private outhouses and bathrooms for girls raised “secondary” school attendance 25%. While boys could pee in the bushes, girls were reluctant to wait all day for a private place to pee and poop (at home), and the start of menstruation made it literally impossible for many girls to attend school that week on top of everything else.
For older women, the expectation of privacy when going to the bathroom meant those without a private outhouse had to “hold it” until night, where they had some privacy but then were at risk of assault.
So yes, lack of menstruation products hinders girls in places where they have none such available - but lack of proper hygiene facilities for women and girls is a much greater problem and true “feminist” issue.

In the developed world, a woman with a cell phone and car who can’t afford feminine hygiene products has a problem with spending priorities, not equal rights.

The guy did an amazing TED talk.
Coming up with an affordable alternative for women, cheap machinery to make it, and now there are women’s coops providing jobs that make an affordable product for women.
And if you don’t use it for feminine hygiene, it can be used as a diaper insert or incontinence pad.

There are medical plans out there that run away screaming from anything related to male sexual dysfunction, even conditions with a clear organic cause -- as in certain diagnosis codes cann't be used, or the insurer will deny the entire claim. (This was pre-Obamacare; maybe it's different now, but I doubt it.)

Imagine if a woman went to the doctor for menopause symptoms and her insurer dumped the entire cost (about $1000 for a full workup) of the claim on her because the diagnosis noted that it caused problems in the bedroom?

The author doesn't have a clue what she's taking about.

Gee, before the invention of feminine hygene products women must have been dropping like flies as they were poisioned by their own bodies.

I tend to read anything written by someone named Zoey, with a healthy dose of skepticism.

Every day our government grows bigger and more intrusive into our lives. What’s not to like about that?

The elite socialists actually believe the female sheeple are too stupid to manage their bodily functions by themselves and need the assistance of their friendly government. It’s their Constitutional “right” to be given free stuff cause men get free stuff too.

Everybody wins! Government further controls the design, manufacture, distribution, application, and disposal of tampons. Women get their “free” tampons. Men get “free” gun barrel cleaners and first aid for gunshot wounds. Homosexuals, Trans-sexuals, and Eunuchs get free “toys” to stick anyplace the government approves. And nobody pays a dime. It’ free.

Ain’t equality and Socialism great! /s

There’s about a 5 year longer life expectancy for women vs men. What about that ‘gender inequality’? Shouldn’t me be ‘compensated’ somehow for that, or shouldn’t we be throwing lots of research dollars into combating this gross inequality? /s

Great point...not to mention that the overwhelming majority of people killed and injured in wars are MEN...that the majority of suicides are MEN...that the majority of industrial accidents and other accidents at work are MEN...that automobile insurance is often higher for MEN...that registrars for the Selective Service Act are all MEN...that the majority of murders are of MEN...that, well, you get the idea!
