You mean that thing Lincoln brought up 3 years into the war when they were getting their butts handed to them and needed to find a new rally cry?

Let's see, three years into the war would be April 1864. Lee had been defeated at Gettysburg. The South was cut in half at the Mississippi. Sherman was getting ready to head for Atlanta and Grant was getting ready to go after Lee. The blockade was effectively cutting the South off from the rest of the world, the Confederate economy was collapsing, and nobody in Europe was willing to look upon the Confederacy as an independent country. So...who was getting their butt handed to them again?

The war started in April, 61. The Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation was proclaimed in September, 62.

Let's see, that's 17 months, not 3 years.

...

The dividing issue that ignited the war was the issue of the expansion of slavery, not slavery itself.

Three years into the war?

War started April, 1861.

Preliminary Emancipation proclamation issues September, 1862. That’s 17 months.

Final EP issues January, 1863. That’s 21 months.

What calendar are you using, that 17 or 21 months constitutes 3 years?
