Yeah. Just forget about the slavery thing.
You mean that thing Lincoln brought up 3 years into the war when they were getting their butts handed to them and needed to find a new rally cry?
And forget they were going into states outside their confederacy to bring runaway slaves back.
And forget that there was going to be any chance of living peacefully next to a country that did not consider people, actual people, because of their outer melanin content.
Forget that it was secession for one of the most idiotic ideas, to keep slavery legal. Given that both sides knew that the plantation model was an economic albatross that was quickly becoming outdated and outcompeted. It was only a matter of time the south would collapse economically and both sides knew it. Like the confederate states would have not become aggressive towards the North as their stupidity tanked them.
The north started it over trade, they brought slavery into it to get more support for it.
Slavery was legal. Next guess.
The Confederate Constitution took care of the slavery thing. It was a war over taxes. The North taxed the hell out of the south. Southern commodities were shipped North, where they were taxed, and then taxed again when sold back to the South as finished products.
The Civil War was about busting the 9th and 10th Amendments.

“Just forget about the slavery thing.”
Only to a liberal idiot the South had slavery and the North was as innocent and pure as the wind driven snow.
