8 Arguments Used to Blame Black People for Their Own Oppression — and How to Counteract Them
The Atlanta Black Star ^ | January 15, 2015 | Nick Chiles

Black people are too intent on holding on to wrongdoings from the past. Therefore, they keep blaming someone else for their problems.

The list of wrongs done to Black people throughout their history in the U.S. that are still resonating in their lives today is extensive and extremely disturbing. As a result of hundreds of years of subjugation in an oppressive, racist system, Black households have one-tenth the wealth of white households in this country. While the Civil Rights Era enabled African-Americans to make great advances in the past 40 years — achieving high school, college and post-graduate degrees at accelerating rates — the disparities are still enormous and will take many generations to overcome without direct intervention. And by the way, the leveling of the playing field helps white people by enabling previously disadvantaged citizens to contribute to the nation’s economy to the full extent of their potential.

If Blacks weren’t committing so much crime, they wouldn’t get so much attention from police.

The common impulse of whites has always been to blame Blacks for pathologies that whites played a central role in creating. Criminologist Charles Silberman wrote in 1978 that “it would be hard to imagine an environment better calculated to evoke violence than the one in which black Americans have lived.” Pretending Black crime is a Black-created problem is like pretending New Orleans never got hit by a hurricane. Since the epidemic of unarmed Blacks being killed by police comes not when Black crime is high but when it is at its lowest level in generations, this argument that police are in Black communities because of the prevalence of crime appears not to be substantiated by the facts. Homicides committed by African-Americans declined by half between 1991 and 2008....

Blacks did that to themselves, nobody made them become democrats.

FDR converted them in a single election, in 1932 they voted republican like they always had and FDR got 23% of the black vote , which was normal, but during the next 4 years he sold them something that made them permanent democrats, a total and instant reversal of how they voted, and in 1936 they voted 71% for FDR, and the rest is history.

Actually, black people who resent their own freedom and want to blame others for stuff that happened decades and centuries ago need to better focus their rage.

Their arguments are with Muslims who took them prisoner in Africa and sold them into slavery, and with Democrats who fought to preserve slavery in America, invented the KKK, enforced Jim Crow and segregation and created the so-called great society.

To blame all white people for those things is racist stereotyping.

I'm willing to believe that this article might have some valid points to make, but opening up with such transparent propaganda isn't a good way to start.

Am I missing something? Where is this "epidemic" the author is referring to?

He's presuming facts not in evidence...

1. There were other slaves in the world besides the blacks.

2. Their own people sold them into slavery from Africa.

3. There are still slaves all over the world and they are not all black.

4. Why isn’t there any outcry about the slaves that are enslaved now by these so called oppression hating freedom lovers?

5. Slavery is a legal or economic system under which people are treated as property. This to me can describe an unborn baby and the decisions made for abortion of. Blacks have the highest number of abortions.

6. Where is that outcry from the blacks for their own babies treated as no more than a slave whose life belongs to another to decide what to do with.

The author sure assumes a lot of facts are factual when they are pure supposition. I can’t have an honest debate with someone like him.

At the author’s website, he gives a short review of his latest book.

He writes: “...in addition to tracing how the modern American police force, particularly in the South, grew directly out of slave patrols and the KKK.”

God holds us all accountable for our behavior and actions.

Romans 14:12 “So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.”

Romans 1:21-22 “because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools.”

As a result of decades of telling black Americans that nothing is their fault, they cannot be guilty of sin -- they think they can act foolishly, aggressively, haughty, take drugs, and commit all the sexual immorality and violence that they want to. As a result, the "black community" is a mess.

What makes you think that he’s the least bit interested in having an honest debate? He’d only want to pontificate his BS while you just shut up and listen.

It is never their fault.

Kinda reminds me of the pResident we have now.

Blame everyone else and never take responsibility for your own faults.

“These people are brain dead. They put this info in the article and don’t see what a silly argument they are making.”

Not necessarily. They are just writing to the intellectual level of their intended audience.

LBJ was white and he created the Great Society which ripped asunder the black families which had formerly been cohesive, owning small businesses and nurturing their children. But the Democrats created a subculture of gibsmedats with feral, uneducated youth.

The Democrats act as Joe Stalin acted after the Sergie Kirov assassination. Sergie Kirov was Stalin's friend and the Leningrad (now St. Petersburg again) Communist boss. According to my favorite historian, Robert Conquest, Josef Stalin plotted the assassination of Sergie Kirov and used his death start The Great Terror. Today's Democrat party creates a problem and, then, blames the opposition or imagined opposition for the problem they themselves have created. It is sort of like a cultural Kirov assassination with the Democrats ruining Negro aspirations with their welfare and jacking up of the minimum wage and the Democrats turn around and blame Americans for the policies that their politicians themselves created. It is pretty annoying. As Jonah Goldberg wrote in Liberal Fascism, "When Democratic administrations foment racism, they blame it on all of America."

It is a sleazy and annoying trick. Pres. Obama blames Pres. Bush for the problems in his administration and what his administration basically caused, too.

“Dont you dare blame me for the $h!t Im doing, that would be racist”

Well said. I was going to post about, how about not breaking the law and killing people?

It's EASY if you try.

Hell, it's been years, oh maybe ...NEVER that I raped someone, sold drugs, or committed armed robbery.

Really, is it THAT hard to avoid murdering someone?

Never appealed to me, but then again, I'm not black so I guess I must defer to "experts" who tell me that black Americans just CAN'T help themselves.

Racism and all...

An amazing collection of circular arguments, blame shifting and intentionally confusing proportions and absolute numbers.

It almost touches on the absence of fathers but blames that on whitey arresting them. It doesn't hit the problem that getting an education is seen as "acting white" and that a few trouble makers are allowed to screw up the education for the rest of the students who might want to learn. And it confuses absolute numbers with proportions by claiming that more whites are on welfare than blacks, ignoring the fact that there are 6 times as many whites so merely having somewhat more whites on welfare shows that individual blacks are much more likely to be on welfare. Ditto for crimes.
