I get that the president is the commander-in-chief. That gives him command of the active military and the reserves. But it was an error to give the president any command power over the National Guard. As a check against tyranny, the Guard should remain 100% under state control unless called into federal service by Congress.

Too late to change things now. Or can I hope for a constitutional amendment?

Empire building in the Space Force.

Curious, will this move bring NG units under UCMJ?

Yes. Liberals want to federalize everything, because they believe in a strong federal government and weak states, completely contrary to the Founding of the country.

Why is the Space Force being mentioned?

Methinks that, it’s being mentioned by the current powers that be in the federal government run by Bidenistas, who hate anything that Trump did. It was Trump that created the Space Force, and who built the border wall, so, those and other Trump successes have to be attacked as burdens or evil.

Texas has a State Guard. And I’m sure we will pick up the useful men in the Texas Air National Guard if it actually happens.

Is this why DeSantis formed the Florida State Guard? I think some other states have done it as well.

Not surprised. I know many Air Force pilots who are choosing retirement rather than remain in a system that is corrupt and stupid.

The problem is money. Given that the states through the various national guard acts have passed much of the responsibility of having a state force over to the federal government, who pays for training, arming, etc.? The states can no longer afford to do it (or so they say!). State militias are much much more now than asking people to get their rifle down from over the fireplace. Many states (Not all!) retain a state guard which is under state control but it’s a mere shadow (In some states less than that!) in responsibility to what a state militia once was.

Personally, at this stage in history I think Space Force as a separate uniform service is a stupid idea. It should stay as a USAF command. I think the senators that sponsored the bill setting up the service see it as a money pot to fund things in their home states. I think it was Manchin who put a section in the bill to stand up USSF national guard units. You know he sees it as a means to create government jobs and funding in WV. When we have space planes & space battle craft then OK, stand it up! We’re not there yet! It’s a boondoggle excuse to spend defense money!

At first glance it would seem so.

Space Guard v international enemies, and
State Guard v internal, domestic enemies.

If reports of China's rapidly growing war-making capabilities are credible, it is becoming increasingly clear we need both.

The Florida State Guard has been in at least a paper existence for some time. DeSantis has breathed new life and responsibility into it. He’s allowing them arms, very unusual! Most state guards are completely unarmed. See wiki link below. I applaud this. Florida at least can afford upping the role of its state guards. Most states either can’t or are unwilling to try.

“It’s a unique situation. There is absolutely no intention to make any other changes, moving things out of the Guard,” Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall Kendall told lawmakers last month.

Yeah, that gives me all SORTS of warm fuzzies.

Yeah, that gives me all SORTS of warm fuzzies. There’s people simply do not realize that they have forfeited ALL the goodwill built up over 250 years.

In their pogrum to sully and destroy all good things President Trump did, the newly-created Space Force did not escape the usurping regime's attention. THIS is one reason why so many would leave rather than be transferred to it:

Excellent point. If the federal government is funding it, the federal government will exercise control over it.
