The Five Basic Laws of Stupidity
Mental Soup ^ | Unknown | Carlo M. Cipolla

Posted on 05/12/2002 2:39:03 AM PDT by Swordmaker

The first basic law of human stupidity asserts without ambiguity that:

Always and inevitably everyone underestimates the number of stupid individuals in circulation.

The Second Basic Law states that:

The probability that a certain person be stupid is independent of any other characteristic of that person.

The Third Basic Law explicitly clarifies:

A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses.

The Fourth Basic Law states that:

Non-stupid people always underestimate the damaging power of stupid individuals. In particular non-stupid people constantly forget that at all times and places and under any circumstances to deal and/or associate with stupid people always turns out to be a costly mistake.

The Fifth Basic Law states that:

A stupid person is the most dangerous type of person.

The corollary of the Fifth Law is that:

A stupid person is more dangerous than a bandit.

Each of these laws is expounded upon and explained... and the explanation of the theory, with a little thought explains EVERYTHING!

You may recall that Carlo M. Cipolla was a professor at UC Berkeley, where stupidity often reigns supreme.

The probability that a certain person be stupid

This, however, was penned by a highly intelligent individual.

A Sixth Law should state:

For a given country, the total intelligence remains the same, though the population increases.

It could even be restated:

For a given family, the total intelligence remains the same, though the population increases.

No, he just be speakin' ebonically.

No, he was correctly using the subjunctive mood.
