A Conservative and a Liberal (not me) pass a panhandler and the Liberal drops a dollar into his cup. The Conservative asks why, and the Liberal responds, “It makes me *feel* good.” The Conservative explains that the beggar will continue to spend it on booze, will not seek help, and will not go to the Salvation Army or Light of Life Mission which constantly tell people to not give money to beggars. The Conservative explains that if instead he had offered the beggar a job, he wouldn’t have taken it because he can get free money for doing nothing, other than standing on the corner with his cup in his hand, no longer contributing to society. But, the Liberal repeats, it makes me *feel* good. The Conservative replies, “It’s not about your feelings.”
