The Free Republic Book Club I once opened my big mouth when I shouldn't have and Voila! the Free Republic Book Club was born, and I was in charge of its ping list. This despite the fact that I know nothing about Book Clubs and have never attended a single on in my life. (I was a member of the Science Fiction Book Club a long time ago, but that was strictly a 6 books for a dollar sort of thing.) |
The Free Republic Book Club Ping List: Freepmail to get on or off this list. |

Category 7, Bill Evans and Mariana Jameson, 2007 Thriller. "It's the biggest storm in history" and it could leave New York City under 30 feet of water. Bill Evans is a meterologist for WABC-Channel 7, and he knows about hurricanes. Library book. I had to reserve it and wait my turn for this one.

Mugglenet.com's What Will Happen In Harry Potter 7, Ben Schoen, Emerson Spatz, et. al., 2006 Mugglenet.com is one of the largest Harry Potter fan websites. It was started in 1999 by Emerson Spatz, then a twelve-year-old homeschooler. This book, which was written before the title of the seventh book was revealed, tries to guess what might happen in the final book by analyzing what has happened in the first six and looking for clues in the text left by J. K. Rowling. I read it after reading Deathly Hallows so it wouldn't spoil it. I didn't have to worry. Library book. |
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, J. K. Rowling, 2007 Fantasy. Seventh and final book in the long-running Harry Potter series. I bought it on the day it was released, but not at midnight. |
D is for Deadbeat, Sue Grafton, 1987 Mystery. Fourth book in a long-running series about detective Kinsey Millhone. Library book. Put on the side halfway through, so I could read Harry Potter.

C is for Corpse, Sue Grafton, 1986 Mystery. Third book in a long-running series about private detective Kinsey Millhone. Library book. I read "A is for Alibi", "B is for Burglar" and started "C is for Corpse" last summer. |
Mathematical Recreations, Maurice Kraitchik, 1953 Nonfiction. Okay, just because someone is a Math Teacher, that doesn't mean that they like to go around reading math books in their spare time. However, this one had a lot of puzzles and I found it on a Math Dept. bookshelf with a bunch of books that were about to be discarded. Some of the problems in the book may show up as homework problems next semester! |
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, J. K. Rowling, 2006 Fantasy. I originally bought and read this book when last year when it came out. I reread it while waiting for the new book. |
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, J. K. Rowling, 2004 Fantasy. I originally bought and read this book when it came out. I reread it while waiting for the new book and the new movie. |
Knights of Dark Renown, David Gemmell, 1989 Heroic fantasy. David Gemmell wrote some of my favorite fantasy books. This one is a standalone novel, not part of any series. I don't remember where I bought the paperback, but it was probably at a science-fiction convention last year. |
