I first discovered Free Republic, along with the Drudge Report, during the Clinton-Lewinsky scandal of 1998. I went to the March for Justice that October. I really enjoyed the experience. I've been a libertarian since around that time. The last straw for me was when Newt Gingrich held up a massive appropriations bill that nobody had bothered to read and called it "good for America". This demonstrated to me that the Republicans were not serious about reducing the size of government, which was primarily why I had registered Republican in the first place. Some of my views had changed as well, and today I consider myself a rather solid libertarian.
