American democracy will whither if the citizens of this country forsake critical thinking and rational inquiry for the easy nostrums of party politics. Blind ideological acceptance too often leads one down the path to error, and one must be willing to test and synthesize policy solutions from all corners of the political map. In a world of complex forces and tangled relations, the simple answers are rarely the correct ones.
