I'm a PhD candidate in musicology who's been in graduate school for five years. I've recently decided I can't stand the academic world anymore and am trying to get a job outside of the academy. And since I'm in the humanities it's ten times worse than it could be.

I'm also stuck in the heart of the east coast's answer to Ann Arbor, MI, Carrboro, NC. Carrboro is a small town next to Chapel Hill filled with aged hippies who wear Birkenstocks but won't wear deodorant, who spend every Monday on the street corner protesting something or another, and spend every weekend at one of several co-op natural foods stores with other leftists! Needless to say, I've got to get out as soon as possible.

I was brought up in a very conservative family and have retained those values despite the determined efforts of nine years of college educators! I consider myself a social and economic conservative, and have some libertarian tendencies.
