I was here on FR in 1999 under a different moniker but changed it for greater anonymity. I was in prestigious academic circles at the time and didn't want my FR addiction to go public. A conservative in academia is not as rare as one might think but a known conservative in academia is a unicorn. It's not a question of courage and bravery, it's more about picking one's fights, choosing which hill to die on, avoiding recklessness, playing the long game, and winning strategically.
