Why am I on Free Republic?

My parents gave up everything (not much) and moved our family to this country after years of waiting and following process and beaurocratic red tape, learned English, got jobs that may not have been glorious at first (imagine being a CPA all your life and then working as a retail store clerk), and made something of themselves, so that their children would live a better life than they did - a life in a free country.

They were under the impression that this would last longer than 20 years.

I choose to live in a free country.

I choose to be responsible for my own life and my own actions, and for the well being and quality of life of my family.

I choose to make or not make anything out of my own life, to succeed in whatever endeavors I so desire to pursue, or to do nothing yet still accept responsibility if that path causes me to end up with nothing.

I choose to be accountable to myself and not blame others if and when misfortunte or a "dark stripe" in life comes my way.

I choose to entitle myself, and my family, and whomever else I may choose, to rewards through my own hard work.

And I would really appreciate it when the government does not make these choices for me, in "my own best interests".

Finally, a word of advice:

Don't argue with stupid people. They will bring you down to their level, and then beat you with experience.
