I am a retired senior citizen who spent most of my working years in retail employment. It is a pleasant surprise on the few occasions I get a “Thank you” for my trade with any establishment. When a “Thank you” is not forthcoming, in reverse, I usually render one to them. If the (usually distracted) cashier is under 40 I get the most confused look and the older ones look away (embarrassed) I hope.
Am I an old curmudgeon or what?
