Those of you who know me personally know that I dress in a style that I call "Scooter Casual". That means skinny boot-cut jeans, a black T-Shirt with either a Harley-Davidson Logo on it or some Souvenir from a Rock Concert I attended. Motorcycle Boots, keys on my belt-loop and a chain wallet complete the look. But...I don't dress that way just to look cool. I need to be ready to hop on a bike or pick up a guitar at a moment's notice.

My nine-year-old vocal student complimented me on my outfit. Then she asked:

"Who are those guys crossing the street? Why are they dressed that way? Why are the cars going in the wrong direction?

I was stunned. I carefully explained to her that my shirt was a facsimile of the Beatles Iconic Album "Abby Road". The four guys were dressed as they were because, in the year previously, a rumor had spread that the cute one with the bare feet was DEAD. (he wasn't!). The man dressed in white (John) was the Preacher at the funeral, the workman in denim (George) was the Gravedigger, and Ringo, the man in black, was the Undertaker. The cars were going in the wrong direction because the picture was taken in London, and they use the opposites sides of the street for traffic. I told her that was a really famous picture, and perhaps the Beatles best album. I thought we were done at that point, but then I had to explain what an "Album" was!

A similar conversation occurred with the dad of one of my students. He was unhappy because, although the boy practiced and was getting good on guitar, he never just sits down and listens to music like our generation used to. I theorized that maybe that's because of the delivery system of today's music. Even the music of the past is no longer "delivered" by means of a media that you can hold in your hands. It's all delivered via computer, smart phone, or livestream. Gone are the days of purchasing a record, carefully slicing open the plastic shrink-wrap, gazing at the cover art and attempting to discern hidden messages, taking out the inner sleeve and reading the lyrics or liner notes, smelling the vinyl, handling it by the edges, and carefully placing the needle. Playing a record involved all of your senses and your BRAIN.

Vinyl is experiencing a resurgence, and it's easy to see why.

In a previous thread in this series I used the presumptive "Everybody Knows". I happened to be in the Book of Daniel, a Book so familiar to me that I just assumed everybody knew what I was talking about! My Sister, who has a degree in Journalism, pointed it out to me. Since we don't have an edit feature on this site once a thread is posted, I had to let it stand. However, like the Album Cover for Abby Road, or the experience of getting a new vinyl record with all the fixings, not Everybody is as familiar with the Bible as I am. And, I might add, there are other people who are even more familiar with it than I am. I wouldn't want them to be "presumptive " with me, so there you go.

Anyway, we are back in the Book of Daniel for our final OLD Testament Title for God, and then I will be off for the Epic Wedding Weekend. We will pick up the thread with the NEW Testament on Tuesday, May 7th.

Here is the setting for Today's Name:

Daniel, a smart, pious, Hebrew Youth, has been kidnapped and forced into service to the Pagan King of Babylon. He never loses his Faith, but develops in Integrity and Wisdom. He is soon promoted and becomes one of the Wise Men of the King's Court. (In this way, his story is similar to that of the Patriarch Joseph).

The King has a very disturbing dream, and the only one who is able to interpret it is Daniel.

The dream concerns a massive statue, with a head of gold, and gradually decreasing in value as it gets down to the toes, which are made up of iron corrupted by clay. (We get the expression "feet of clay" from this story!)

Daniel correctly interprets this dream as the March of History with gradually corrupted empires until the whole thing is destroyed by a "Rock Cut Without Hands" that comes from the sky and destroys the whole thing.

The Gold Head is Babylon, the Silver Chest is Persia, the Bronze Belly is Greece, the Iron Legs are Rome, and the corrupted toes are the last days of the Roman Empire. The Rock, coming like a Giant Meteorite from the Heavens is not described as God, but, from the way this timeline has played out in History, we can deduce that perhaps the meteoric event was the Birth of Christ.

Something really BIG happened then, and even changed the way we count the years.

The story of Daniel was so familiar to the People of Ancient Israel, that, when Alexander the Great marched into Jerusalem, the Priests and Scholars were expecting him. The legend has it that they greeted Alexander as the fulfillment of Daniel's interpretation of King Nebuchadnezzar's Dream.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Good Morning Everybody! I am safely home from the Wedding, which was glorious. Tomorrow we will be embarking on a New Journey, the Names of God in the NEW Testament, which are mostly Names for the Messiah.

Tippy spent a weekend with her Personal Trainer, and from the photos sent to me, it was like a weekend at Boot Camp. Obstacle Courses, Running, and SOCIALIZING with other "problem" doggies.

She was smiling in all the pictures.
