Households Wince at the Rising Price of Going Green
Wall Street Journal ^ | May 6, 2024 | Stacy Meichtry, Bertrand Benoit, and Phred Dvorak

When postal manager José Belloso put his Paris apartment up for sale this year he was required to have an inspector grade the home for energy efficiency under strict rules designed to fight climate change.

Belloso’s building was built in the early 1900s from millstone, a porous sedimentary rock that was popular among architects of France’s Belle Époque. His apartment flunked the inspection—and under a regulation that came into force this year, the property was barred from the rental market until costly renovations are made.

Belloso was ultimately forced to knock 50,000 euros, equivalent to $54,000, off his asking price to find a buyer.

Consumers are starting to pay for the energy transition, and they aren’t happy about it.

Governments that were among the earliest in the world to adopt climate legislation tried to take the sting out of the transition by motivating consumers with subsidies. Now, however, the same capitals are cash-strapped and many are passing the bill to the consumer. Subsidies are being scaled back, taxes tied to carbon emissions are being phased in, and rules requiring expensive renovations are starting to bite.

Many consumers, including those who broadly support the energy transition, are unwilling to pay up. Farmers have laid siege to Paris and other European capitals over plans to remove diesel-fuel subsidies. German households have rebelled against requirements to replace polluting gas boilers. In California, homeowners and small businesses seeking to install solar panels are running up against new metering rules that cut by roughly three-quarters the amount of money they can get for selling electricity back into the grid.

Governments lined up a slew of climate measures years ago when interest rates were low and energy supplies seemed abundant. Now those changes are coming into force, and governments are facing a new calculus.

I gotta laugh. When AOC rolled out her Green Agenda a few years back Republicans laughed. Fast forward 3 years and it’s being fully implemented without objection. Can anyone say the word collaboration?

Yes. The green agenda has been stuffed down our throats thanks to Joe Manchin and the absurdly titled Inflation Reduction Act. Not to mention the myriad of regulations and mandates. Greenies have prosperity and plenty in a death grip. Our only hope is that economy crashes into a depression.

Never mentioned for obvious reasons: real green always saves money, fake green always costs more. Total costs are proportional to total energy inputs/pollution outputs.

“Going green” is dumb. It doesn’t help the environment. It only makes your energy sources less dependable and more costly.

The only time that alternative energy is beneficial is if you do it yourself (or hire professionals to do it) for your own benefit. And even then you have to be in a good situation for it. Last but not least you have to do LOTS of homework.

“Going green”. Stunning example of Romans 1:25.

“They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—”

Isn’t Joe Manchin the guy Brian Kilmeade gushes over when he talks about ‘reaching across the aisle’?

Green policy is about saving the planet the same CoupFlu policy was about protecting public health.

What all this is really about is annihilating the middle class.

And not just here in the US.

follow the $ - about the planet, my eye, more about redistribution of wealth, building new wealth on the Left - BO’s transformation - which is why we need a huge sweep in November and R’s with focus, passion and spines.

When you already have the highest standard of living in the history of human civilization, there’s no way for the economy to grow unless you force people to buy sh!t they don’t want and don’t need.

That’s why corporate-government fascism is the natural end to a modern, industrial economy. Americans already have everything they need (and more), so they end up buying crap like aircraft carriers, COVID vaccines, useless college degrees for other people, and battery-powered cars.

The newest scam for bureaucrats and their groupies to feed off of free enterprise. They are parasites of weak societies.

I think Doocy plays the RINO more often than Kilmeade. It’s fun to watch F&F now that they can’t avoid covering Trump. Trump made Fox’s stupid debates worthless.

How much longer will we common folks be allowed to freely buy gasoline?

The only way for the leftist idiots in government to make their push to EVs to work will be to outlaw gas powered cars and/or to restrict the sale of gasoline to everyday citizens.

Of course the Al Gores and John Kerrys will still have free access to gasoline and all the jet fuel they want so they can continue flying their private jets all over the world.

I figured out during dubya’s second term that we’re dealing with two wings of a uniparty. And I was embarrassed that it took so long.

i.e. not only does this not surprise me, but I expected it.

I save a ton of money ignoring it. e.g. I don’t do “organic”.

What’re these psychopaths talking about “the rising price”??

It NEVER was cheap to “go green”; the entire thing was always all about the Benjamins.
