Cubans lured to Russian army by high pay and passports
BBC News ^ | May 4, 2024 | Vitaly Shevchenko

Russia has likely been recruiting Cuban nationals to fight in its army in Ukraine, research by the BBC has shown.

In September and October 2023, passport details belonging to over 200 Cubans who allegedly joined the Russian army were leaked online by a pro-Ukrainian platform called InformNapalm.

The passport details were obtained, the site said, by hacking the emails of a Russian military recruitment officer in Tula, south of Moscow.

A Facebook search has shown that 31 of the names mentioned in the Ukrainian leak match accounts whose owners appear to be in Russia or linked to the Russian army.

Some, for instance, have posted photos of themselves wearing Russian military uniform, or in locations that bear Russian street signs or Russian number plates. Others list Russia as their current place of residence.

Many of those Facebook users started posting Russia-related content in the second half of 2023, indicating when they might have arrived in the country.

Since launching its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia has suffered heavy losses on the battlefield. A BBC investigation confirmed the names of more than 50,000 Russian troops killed in Ukraine - but the real number is likely to be much higher. Ukraine's own estimate puts the number of Russian soldiers killed or wounded in the war at nearly 500,000.

Good for the BBC, they mentioned $2000/mo-

the last one about Nepali’s going for high pay yet omitting the actual pay resulted in folks posting ridiculous things.

Russia would never trick anyone like this. Never. Russia and China and Iran and the Norks are all the good guys. They even made up a poster showing so.

This whole debacle is insane. All its doing is killing off white men and destroying manmade civilization, town by town.

Russia would never trick anyone like this.

This is like in the 1960s when all those Chinese were "tricked" into moving to Hong Kong.

Back in March, this was discussed....Indians joining Russian army. Deal was...they were offering regular civilian jobs to the Indians in Moscow. The Indians flew in...signed some papers and then got on some plane...to border of the Ukraine and some mini-boot-camp.

No one says the numbers (they are both doing stuff like this). Wouldn’t shock me if Russia recruits 2,000 guests per month. I expect the recruitment to reach Africa by the end of the year.

Yes, I don’t think they are finished “recruiting.”

Not by a long shot - they haven’t even starting sending kids from Syria and Africa to die in their illegal and immoral war. But they surely will, and Putin becomes an international war criminal more and more every day.

So, A and B are countries at war. A recruit’s citizens from C,D,E and F to go fight for them. As a citizen of those countries, I’d like to know what the mix of soldiers at the front is. I’ll bet there are three or four C,D,E and F’s to every A getting shot at.

Russia’s tactics appear to be, sacrifice the men to force the enemy to give up their locations by firing and then force the enemy to use up his ammo. It’s the opposite of what a general should do. But if you don’t value your men, then you can spend them like a drunken sailor spends his money. If you had one specific target that gave you some inordinate advantage, then perform the sacrifice knowing in the end the overall total will be lower. But the Russians are using this tactic to take everything from the low ground to garbage heaps.

Those that get captured should be offered asylum. Pretend they died and send back ant personal items for ‘proof’.

Why would any Cuban want to leave the socialist workers’ paradise of Cuba? I’ve been told what a wonderful place it is.

Absolutely. They would have to expand on freedom if they wanted to feed their people.
