I have tried, and generally succeeded at staying clear of religious debate within political discussions. But lately, an ugly trend has appeared in ‘conservative’ circles. A lot of good ‘conservative’ right wingers are bashing Mormons very much like Atheists bash all Christianity. My observation over several decades and many churches is that there are two kinds of people you find in any church...saints and sinners. Many of these over zealous ‘Christians’ just can’t admit which category they fall into. Hint...you won’t find a handful of ‘Saints’ in all of them and I certainly don’t fall into that category.

Those who would force upon us their ‘true religion’ do not notice that the borders are open to terrorism, that a socialist is in the white house, that our economic system is gone. They only want a cure for Mormonism! At a time when our only success can be unity, they seek to divide us further.

I have little doubt that scripturally and historically the case for some sects being the ‘true church’ rather than the Mormon religion can be made. That is not what concerns me or what concerned the founding fathers when this nation was formed. I will not argue dogma or scripture because there is no end to it and it is irrelevant in a constitutional republic. Those discussion should be outside the political arena.

In this republic, the founding fathers took the issue of religion out of all policy making except to expressly provide for each of us to worship as we chose and for the government to stay out of it. If a church is no immediate threat to me or my country, it is simply none of my business. I want patriots, men of good will toward one another. I’ve found them in ALL religions and races. More often than not, I find them from the Mormon Church......not preaching dogma, but proudly standing beside a sinner like me in defense of our nation. I was disappointed that some of them supported Mitt Romney simply because he is Mormon. I found more of them supporting other candidates who were not. There is plenty reason for no conservative to support Romney, but his religious leaning should not be one of them. This only represents the reverse side of the same bigoted coin. We saw it when John Kennedy was maligned for being ‘Catholic’.

Still, many insist on voting for representatives of our government based solely on ethnicity or religion, based solely on their own emotional attachment or revulsion to a particular sect. This is how tyrants are born. This is how we elect ‘rock stars’ instead of statesmen.

Divide and conquer. The oldest tactic on earth, and still the masses fall for it every time. Don’t we see enough division in our government over race, gender, etc? Must religion be included in this after the founding fathers warned us repeatedly of such a danger?

Divide and conquer. We’ve pushed that silly notion so far that atheism and environmentalism have been given religious status. Secularism has surpassed the faithful in numbers. And why not? The Catholics and Baptists hate the Mormons. The extreme right evangelicals hate the Jews. And the Muslims? Well, they hate us all!

VOTE SMART OR DON’T VOTE AT ALL! By TheTownCrier

Tonight my local CBS affiliate had a spot about the fact that the presidential candidates aren’t delivering voter information to the local party reps. The pubic is frustrated because they can’t get candidate/party literature to make their ‘informed’ vote. Give me a break! People don’t understand what propaganda is. Now let’s be serious, most voters don’t even go to that trouble. They may see a newscast that has shown only 4 candidates for the past month, or Colbert and Letterman. Yeah, like we need that vote! Ugh….

I’d say, after watching this current primary, there is an ineffective minority of us who actually vote based on a candidates record on issues or his/her (ack!) history. A famous dictator said, ‘It’s best for the leaders that the people are ignorant.’ Absurd outcomes of elections by electing the worst possible candidates don’t happen by accident. If people are not elected on their merits and ability to handle the job, why are they being elected? None of the answers are good.

Lets’ ignore the democrats for the moment. I don’t have the energy. John McCain is absolutely, without a doubt, the worst candidate running as a republican in this primary. The second worst is Mike Huckabee. Any of them, yes even Ron Paul would be better. Not that Paul is the answer, it’s just those two really are that bad.

We must find a way to increase the number of informed voters. I’m not talking about the people who vote out their childhood traumas….I’m poor…..I vote for the woman….I won’t vote for a Mormon….Mike Huckabee sounds like the fool I am….Tea will flow in Boston Harbor if Ron Paul is elected, .etc. Nothing can be done for them, they’ve existed before man voted and they’ll always be there to try to screw it all up for the rest of us. I’m talking about the good Americans out there who don’t go bonkers when you tell them something they don’t know. The ones who would vote intelligently if they could get the information.

They’re not on the internet, many don’t have cable, they read their local rag. They hang out with people who don’t know any more than they do. When you find how to reach them, you will solve the problem. We fall under the illusion that we are more informed than our ancestors. I’m not so sure. It was a hand delivered booklet carried over thousands of miles on horseback or foot that brought them the American Revolution. Those primitives elected George Washington, Thomas Jefferson….you know the routine…..ALL without TELEVISION! They could do it, but we can’t? That’s messed up.

Today I was contacted by 3 different groups all deciding they’re going to start a 3rd party by gosh! That’ll fix this mess! Oh……and how is anyone going to find out about these savior 3rd parties and their earthshaking ideas? CBS, CNN, FOX?…..Right! Thinking ‘party’ is what has us in this mess. If it has an ‘R’ beside it’s name, it must be all good! Yahoo! We’re all bent out of shape trying to defeat the Democrats --- Republicans can’t even defeat the Republicans in this election! We already have 2 parties that don’t function, we sure don’t need more. There are times for parties to grow, this isn’t one of them.

I got to show someone today ‘the real John McCain’ who voted for him yesterday thinking they were electing a respected, conservative Senator and war hero. This person feels bad, real BAD! She read the ‘party’ literature and watches all the network news and reads a couple newspapers. But none of them are telling her the truth.

Think about this. The approval rating of congress is in the low 20’s. Eighty percent of the country thinks the House and Senate stink! The 3 ‘TOP’ candidates are all from the Senate, the slimiest elitist club ever known to man. Those three, McCain, Obama, and Hillary have been campaigning for the last 4 years instead of doing their job! Two of them are lawyers and that ought to disqualify them right off the bat. And McCain, well, he’s off the bat, too. And someone wants to promote them? How does this make ANY sense?

I only witnessed the phenomena once, in Eugene, Oregon about 15 years ago. The ordinary quiet college city was suddenly transformed into a vertical and horizontal display of psychedelic automotive wonder. We’d just arrived in town to visit friends and every street we turned on was full of them.

Deadheads. Adoring, if not addicted fans of the rock group The Grateful Dead, filled hand painted buses and vans. Some of them even had a passenger car welded to the top of buses going ‘double decker’. Driving pinched between the stoned drivers of these colorful unique vehicles reminded me of being a child riding along in a boat at Disneyland in the “It’s a small world” attraction with MUCH different music and no cute dolls, just hairy pitted, sagging breasted, single minded, loud, obnoxious hippies.

Over the years, having been involved in political forum discussions, a few posters have established themselves as self anointed experts on all things economic from trade to cheap labor. It’s always about the ‘bottom line’ and ANY means justify that end, whether ethical, moral, exploitive or illegal, just make that dollar and take it from anyone vulnerable that you can. And anyone who dares object to being the target of such less-than-honorable economic schemes is well, just useless and annoying, at best.

They are the ones that are always for any trade deal any where on earth pushed out of the White House and congress, current and past. They don’t really care what the endless mountains of pages contain save two things. Will it get them cheap labor and cheap imports? In other words can they eventually screw their own customers out of their jobs.

Globalism, not community is what matters and they don’t worry about the long term. These are the same type are who came to America and almost wiped out the herds of buffalo, just because they could. After the civil war they called them carpetbaggers. That’s why you never see this type in farming, crafting, building or anything that must depend on the future of a community. And they are just plain too lazy to indulge in honest work. But somehow they always manage to be in our faces to set us straight.

Deadheads. Dazed to the pain they cause in the world around them, blindly following their idolatry through town after town, leaving a trail of garbage and discontent. But they aren’t as harmless as the rock groupies. Our new globalist adoring Deadheads destroy industries, jobs, security, communities and lives.

And then they tell us how stupid, uneducated and unenlightened we are because we dare object that it is our pocket they are picking to pay for their instant monetary gratification.

Deadheads. Self indulgent, arrogant, rude and smelly. They’re just lacking the pretty colors.

It’s a small world, after all.

How many people in the United States died for illegal immigration last month? How many more were raped or seriously injured?

There is really no way to accurately count the number. For Instance, Oregon has just announced a website for tracking dangerous, predatory sex offenders. They do not offer legal status and under “race” there is no category, for instance, for Hispanic. They are counted as “white”. The law does not recognize “hispanic” or Guatemalan or Mexican or Salvadoran, etc. as a race.

Media outlets often fail to note the legal status of perpetrators, if the information is even released to them by law enforcement. Some LEO s don’t even ask for status.

Yet every day, in any town, USA, you can hear local news about such crimes. Sometimes they make the national news and there is an abundance in spite of the lack of details.

1. Bexar County, Texas, 1986 - Unidentified homeless woman: She was shot four times and her body was dumped in an abandoned farmhouse. Resendiz gave details only the killer would know.

2. San Antonio, Texas, July 19, 1991 - Michael White, 33: Early this year, detectives positively identified Resendiz in the murder of White, 33, who was shot several times. Resendiz provided details that only the killer could have known.

3-4. Belleview and Oxford, March 23, 1997 - Jesse Howell, 19, and Wendy Von Huben, 16: Howell was killed with a rail car coupling. In 2000, Resendiz directed deputies to Von Huben's body. She had been assaulted after her death.

5. Colton, Calif., July 5, 1997 - Robert Castro, age unknown: Resendiz confesses and is linked to the murder of Castro, whose body was found along the railroad tracks. Castro was killed by a blow to the head with a rail car coupling.

6. Lexington, Ky., Aug. 29, 1997 - Christopher Maier, 21: The University of Kentucky student was bashed in the head by Resendiz with a large rock along a railroad track. Maier's girlfriend was raped and beaten but survived and later testified.

7. Hughes Springs, Texas, Oct. 2, 1998 - Leafie Mason, 87: Beaten to death in her home with a fire iron by Resendiz, who entered through a window just yards from the Kansas City-Southern Rail line.

8. Carl, Ga., Dec. 11, 1998 - Fannie Byers, 81: Bludgeoned to death in her home. Just after his arrest, Resendiz provides key information that leads to his connection and authorities drop charges against another man.

9. West University Place, Texas, Dec. 17, 1998 - Dr. Claudia Benton, 39: The researcher was found beaten 19 times with her favorite antique statue in this Houston suburb. She had been assaulted after her death. Resendiz is linked to her death through fingerprints and later convicted and sentenced to death.

10-11. Weimar, Texas, May 2, 1999 - The Rev. Norman Sirnic, 46, and Karen Sirnic, 47: Both were beaten to death with a 16-pound sledgehammer in their home, near railroad tracks. She was assaulted after her death.

12. Houston, Texas, June 4, 1999 - Noemi Dominguez, 26: The teacher was beaten to death with a pickax. Resendiz said he killed her because she had abortion literature. She was assaulted after her death.

13. Fayette County, Texas, June 4, 1999 - Josephine Konvicka, 73: She was killed hours later with the same pickax as Dominguez.

14-15. Gorham, Ill., June 15, 1999 - George Morber Sr., 80, and Carolyn Frederick, 51: Resendiz shot and killed Morber before clubbing his daughter to death. Frederick was also assaulted after her death. Resendiz is later seen driving Fredrick's red pickup.

NOTE: On Sept. 6, 1979, Resendiz broke into 88-year-old Gilbert Chase's Miami home. Chase was beaten severely, but he didn't die for months. Resendiz was charged only with assault because it couldn't be discounted that old age was the man's cause of death. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison, and was released after having served six years.
