DESPITE reports that Saddam Hussein has rebuilt his army under sanctions, military morale is perilously low in Iraq. If the United States were to throw its weight behind the Iraqi opposition, Saddam Hussein's police state would likely collapse faster than did the Taliban.

Iraqis were later astounded when the State Department second-guessed the wisdom of the airstrikes.

This is largely due to the system for selcting the geniuses who work in the state department. Hint: People with real world experience need not apply.

Let's use the same strategy as in Afghanistan.

Empower the IRAQI opposition and let them ROLL.

...138 of Saddam's troops threw down their weapons and surrendered without a shot being fired...

Available on E-Bay: Iraqi Army Rifle, never fired, dropped once.

Good post JH2.

Let's assume this article is 100% true. These Iraqi's are apparently going to get their wish - sometime soon.

Once we're done with Afghanistan and have accomplished in a few short months what the Soviets/Russians failed to do in 10 long years, Iraq is next.

The "coalition" that includes the U.K., Canada, Australia, Germany, France, Italy, several Arab states and much of the E.U. will fall in line - despite the protestations that are currently coming from Tony Blair and the U.K.

To win the war on terrorism, we must take it out, where ever it lives. That includes our own homeland. But to win the war on Terrorism we must also win the war against Disinformation. There is currently much of it still out there. We can and must counter it with the TRUTH. By doing so, we'll keep the "coalition" together and build more support for U.S. led efforts on the war against terrorism.

We've made a good first start winning that battle on several fronts in Afghanistan. We need to do better fighting the war against disinformation too.

Peace.

Residents reported that when U.S. warplanes flew low over Iraqi lines, 138 of Saddam's troops threw down their weapons and surrendered without a shot being fired.

Since when did the French go to Iraq and train these fellas?

Good stuff, JH2. Thanks for posting it. No one in this country should worry about ordinary Iraqis hating us if we overthrow Saddam Hussein's regime. I'm certain most of them would be thrilled. They know Saddam far better than we do. No matter how long you brainwash people, they still don't want to live all their lives in fear of a bloody tyrant.

We should do the decent thing (which is also manifestly in our own interest) and take out Saddam as soon as things are reasonably calm in Afghanistan. We'll never have a better chance.
