I GUESS I'M A WARMONGER
KOMOTV ^ | 10/8/2001 | Ken Schram

Posted on 10/08/2001 10:16:39 PM PDT by notyourregularhandle

In talking with people who have been, and will be, out protesting for peace, I was told that if I don't condemn military actions against Afghanistan, then I'm a "warmonger."

OK. In that narrow definition, I guess I am.

I can't see their point of view. They can't see mine.

I find the peace activists naive. They find me confused.

I can't believe they think there's a peaceful way to deal with someone who hurls commercial airliners into city buildings.

They can't believe that I don't see that bombs and missiles will do anything more then convince those that hate us, to hate us more.

They think killing is wrong no matter who does it.

I think killing is worse when people like Osama bin Laden use a pile of bodies in his climb, and claim, to be with God.

They think bin Laden needs to somehow be reasoned with.

I think he needs to be dead.

They mostly want a peace that's just the absence of war.

I want a peace that brings the security and assurance of being safe.

So, I'll surrender to the reasoning of those who call themselves peace activists.

In this instance, under these circumstances, they're right.

I'm a warmonger.

And you can put that on one of your placards, pal.

...And by the way...I find these 'peace' activists to be un-American and just plain STUPID.

If it's their mother/grandmother/etc who's NEXT, because we decide to bend over and hold up the peace sign then they WILL be singing a different tune.

The good soldier hopes never to have to go to war, but is more than prepared when the time comes. It's not classical warmongerism to recognize that a duty has got to be fulfilled. On the other hand, it's is a denial of reality to to state that peace is the only option. I'll stand with you any time on this, but I do not relish our having to kill other humans. It's a sad day when it comes to that, but we go forward in the hope that the leaders of terrorism will die quickly and the hostilities be completed ASAP.

Don't get me wrong. I do not hang my head in that we must kill. Kill we must. Kill with swift violent devistation we must. Total inialation of the adversary is the only road to peace. Too bad it had to come to this.

20,000??? Are you kidding me?

My generation has just known "peace" (except for the gulf war ofcourse and ...well that took less than three months), and add to that the liberal bull we've put up with and you've got Chomsky-Anti-American-bashers ALL OVER THE PLACE...

I know I'm a warmonger...my wife just told me so. She also said I'm not a good Christian. She thinks that we should retaliate but we should all act like we're sad about it. I called her a hypocrite. I'm sleeping on the couch tonight.

OK. Well I just hope these protests stay "meager" a year from now...because they haven't in the past.

My main point is patriotism has gone down the @#%@# hole, and THAT'S what makes me feel insecure about living here...

I see your wife's point, I really do. War is not something I think is just wonderful either. However, when our nation was brutally attacked like this, all bets are off! I was on the sidelines wanting this to begin since the moment the planes hit the WTC and the pentagon!
I have always thought if and when we were personally attacked there was no question that we should bomb whoever did it with all we have, and I am usually a little more timid about war than this. Not this time!
Call me a warmonger too!

You know, with people I know, the general sentiment was one of reservation right after 911, but people I've talked to since we have struck back are getting bolder and braver everyday. I can feel it in their comments. They want to win this thing and they are ready for a long struggle. I haven't really seen this kind of unity, ever. It makes me proud to be an American as well as a warmonger!
