actually McCain’s plane was the one hit by the rocket that set off the inferno. Youtube has a number of videos of the Forrestal fire
I know the guy who was McCain’s roommate on the Forrestal. I think McCain was flying A-4’s. The guy I know was flying A-7’s.
I was over there, on the Enterprise. In my experience,(Enterprise had a big fire as well) those rumors are BS. I wonder, actually I don’t, about the source.
John McCain was in the cockpit of the A4 that got hit by the Zuni rocket that started the fire.
When I was in Coast Guard boot camp (Alameda, Sept to Nov, 1971) they showed us the deck camera films from this fire. Bombs would go off, flinging burning shit everywhere, and the people would drop their fire hoses and run. As soon as the shit stopped falling, they would run back, pick up their hoses and go back to fighting the fire. Our instructors kept telling us, “That’s how it’s done! Don’t ever give up, don’t ever quit!”
(Then we went to the Treasure Island Navy Base and spent the rest of the day fighting fires in their “concrete ship”.)

No, it didn't. The rocket misfired on another plane on the flight deck. If I'm not mistaken, it hit the plane next to McCain's. In the videos, you can see McCain escaping from his plane over its nose.
You’re welcome. I don’t know if my Uncle was on the Forrestal at the time of the fire, but he’s still alive, and doing well. Lives in Vegas now.

I used to see a guy around town in the early 70s who was badly disfigured by severe burns. I never asked how he got the burns but he was the right age to have been part of the deck crew of the Forrestal.
No worries. I try to clean up my messes. I make a lot of them. ;)
I’ve posted this here previously and I hope and pray that I am wrong.... I expect a major attack upon Israel between now and December 31st from Syria, Russia, Iran,.......
