I agree that serving is a choice but if you think Service members are overpaid that tells me you never served or served in some cush location and not for 20 years.

Some other poster mentioned that pay had increased over 100% since 2001.

Are you sure today's pay is appropriate given the state of the economy and the reduction in deployments Iraq and Afghanistan? Even in 2010 only 40% of U.S. military had deployed and less than 10% had seen combat.

Same logic used in the 30's and Clintoon's 'peace dividend'. While there is much waste in DoD, how many states have had an active foreign military occupation since the US founding? How many foreign military attacks?

Base pay for an E-1 went from $1042 in 01 to a proposed $1532 in 2014. $490 increase, for a non-war in beginning of 2001 to seemingly never-ending war nowadays under the DiC. Less than 5 bills extra of QE'ed cash to fight 0bama's wars? Can't see the 'overspending' for base pay.
