Contraception: The Tragic Deception

Contraception did not command my attention easily. Assuming it non-threatening to existing human life, and hearing no objections from the voices I respected most, I regarded it a minor issue.

But the "glass darkly" began turning translucent and, eventually, transparent during my research for Sex Education and Your School Board and for Planned Parenthood: What the Facts Reveal. Not only did I observe contraception's grievous influence on youth and its abiding intimacy with abortion, but I also perceived within it a self-directing spirit. When released with government approval into an unmindful nation, contraception, I noted, worked a will of its own, and its power to injure and destroy called to mind the "principalities of the air" Ephesians 6 warns against.

Today, I am among the small but growing Protestant minority who deems conception God's domain and contraception a devious intruder. If loss of human life is a major indicator, contraceptives that contain birth control components comprise the most deadly force in history. The Pill (in over 40 varieties), Norplant, Depo-Provera, Prostaglandins, and the solely abortifacient intrauterine devices (IUDs) have, by research estimates, killed in America alone over 150 million unborn citizens after their conception.

If contraception bears homage to the spirit world, as I contend, that helps explain the mystery of today's passive Church amidst an unspeakable holocaust, and it helps explain the immense divide between our boisterous pro-life rhetoric and our ineffectual pro-life action. It also helps explain our readiness to apply the same regrettable response of nonintervention that our Church forebears applied to slavery in America and to Nazism in Germany.

As did they, we have yielded to a spiritual stronghold, and the senior villain is contraception rather than the surgical abortions on which pro-lifers continue to focus. Satan knows those abortions (or the chemicals ready to supplant them) are secure so long as contraception is secure. He knows the annual loss of 1.3 million American infants to surgical mutilation today is far below the number of unborn children killed in the U.S. by abortifacient birth controls, and that loss does not address the capabilities of contraception to tempt, cripple, and destroy incrementally. My generation has yielded to contraception because the portion of our hearts ordained for children has found other interests, and as a result we are less detached from abortion industry values than we want to assume.

Margaret Sanger, the mother of "family planning," inflicted greater injury on our nation than any other person who has lived on earth this century. She wrote: "Civilization, in any true sense of the word, is based upon the control and guidance of the great natural instinct of Sex. Mastery of this force is possible only through the instrument of Birth Control." Through Sanger's relentless guidance, contraception forged the path for America's sexual revolution and its accompanying depravities. It forged the path for unrestricted abortion and its inestimable death toll.

When modern contraceptives were being developed at mid-century, U.S. doctors were treating four sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), illegitimacy was at four percent, and abortions were estimated to be 100,000 annually. Soon thereafter, officials in our democracy decided with their human reasoning that sexuality in our nation needed institutional management and that fornication could be made safe for both single adults and youth. Today, U.S. physicians are treating more than 50 strains of STDs, illegitimacy has reached 35 percent, and abortions (surgical and abortifacient) are estimated to be about 10 million annually. As a result, our economists tell us that illegitimacy alone can bankrupt the U.S., and anthropologists tell us that never before in history has such a high percentage of children, in any culture, grown up fatherless. Add to these losses a 100 percent increase in divorce since 1960, an alarming rise in abuse and violence outside the womb, and epidemics of illiteracy, estranged youth, and dysfunctional families. Contraception, we know, is not the sole culprit, but it is a fierce contributor, with enduring penalty.

As this century closes, America bears the shame God assigns to nations that reject chastity, fidelity, and procreation. The badge of Sodom-legalization of same-sex marriages-looms before us in significant measure because we who claim to know Christ have joined the grim coalition against children. Contraception has served to steal our affection for them and, thereby, our will to seriously defend them. Little should we marvel that homosexuality fills that void in our society.

Yet there is a more intimate reason for my opposition to contraception. It was reaffirmed recently when a friend told me about an elderly missionary mother. When asked to cite her "most important accomplishment in life," she replied, "Raising my six kids." She then told about her investment in her children and how each of them had become "a light to the world."

That testimony speaks eloquently to my personal loss. My wife and I have a son and daughter whom we cherish and who are developing, with diligence, the gifts God has graced to them so that they, too, can be lights to the world. Daily, I rejoice in their lives, but I wonder how many more lights God wanted to originate in our family. The evidence suggests my wife and I could have had additional children with little difficulty, and though we yielded no ground to abortion we fell prey to its more deceptive and senior partner.

With passing years, an abiding sadness has settled into my spirit, and I do not want to lose it, for it has taught me the incomparable worth of procreation. Today, my loss is all too similar to that of grieving parents who have had to bury sons and daughters-and it is also similar to that of regretful mothers and fathers who have by trifle aborted their unborn babies. How many children did God desire in my family? I long to know-and I long to know their interests, their gifts, their laughter, and their own family members. But most of all, I long to know the light they could have brought into the world.

May God grant that others will welcome into their homes the uniquely wondrous gift of children.

Not only is contraception a grave evil and a sin, contraception leads to higher divorce rates.

Divorce rates in America are about 50%. Couples who practice NFP, the divorce rate is between 2-5%.

When Catholics practice the moral teaching of their Church, and other Christians accept that contraception is against the will of God, divorce will plummet.

My husband and I practice NFP and have only conceived when we intended to conceive. It is more than 99% effective in spacing children, or postponing children for just reasons.

A new study commissioned by Mercedes Wilson is due soon. She hired a a very stringent Jewish researcher(who hadn't heard of NFP) before to do the study. I belive their were no divorces in the entire study.

The Couple-to-Couple League study wasn't scientific, they followed people who used the CCLI training.

I am very pleased that Protestants are joining us on this moral issue. The author of your post clearly points out the connection between contraception and abortion, not just that contraception itself leads to early abortions, but that contraception leads to an abortion mentality. The contraceptive mentality leads to promiscuous sex, STDs, low self-esteem, and failed marriages. Why can't people see this?

FWIW, Royce Dunn was born and raised a Baptist... so, perhaps OrthoPresbys who are critical of contraception are no longer completely alone among Protestants. ;-)

I'm sorry if I sound despairing on the issue but we do need to face the fact that the overwhelming majority of human beings in this nation have been thoroughly brainwashed on the subject and have not the ability to even understand what we're saying anymore.

Even the Catholics are thoroughly tainted with Rockefeller notions regarding children as parasites and stumbling blocks to wealth and advancement.

The far left, certain oppressed folks and rank racists like the Last Poets "get it".

But their understanding is premised on the USE of progeny as both strength but also a weapon ... the child at her breast some sort of flip side to the machine gun over her shoulder. A calculated Deathist take on Life brought to you by the Circus-Circus element of Revolution.

Still they probably still outnumber entirely what Catholics with big families you'll see at the Latin Masses and, less frequently all the time, the English Masses and their message probably resonates with nihilists more powerfully than ours does here.

So ... there is also the problem of overcoming what the conservatives (and, thanks to the demonization/dehumanization of Muslims whose practices still are Christian, however heretical, in ultimate orgin) and patriots feel is a Threat by Breeders.

It's not as if our Conditioners haven't made hay with the Holy War by targeting Islam's Breeding Practices as an evil. I'll bet I can find posts every day wherein folks will characterize the children of Arabs as not only expendable Collateral Damage but -- along with the children of the Poor abroad and here at home -- a real and present Threat to "our way of life".

Yet, at the heart of the Far Left and the anarchists "Resistance is Fertile" is a most powerful truth ... particularly given the Interlock's thoughts on the matter as expressed in GOP consciousness-raising and policies regarding Population Control.

We conceive an idea. We conceive a baby. A baby is conceived. Conception applies just as well for defining what will animate matter in a human nature or what will animate your mind within your idea.

And that is, so to speak, an extraordinary description of reality which is at the very beginning the information and the matter, so to speak:

the spirit and the body are so intimately interwoven that we use the same word to say spirit animated by your ideas, or life of a new human being animated by genetic property-conception.

I cannot stress enough the disdainful use of "Breeder" by the average homosexual ... the State's Ideal citizen.

I guess over the years I've come to expect it from the young killer queen "Gay Pride" sorts but it's still startling to realize how powerful is that element in the homosexual agenda.

I long to know-and I long to know their interests, their gifts, their laughter, and their own family members. But most of all, I long to know the light they could have brought into the world.

My frustration is just the opposite. We have three children. My "baby" will turn 6 in 2 weeks. We always thought we would have 2 more by now. Even though we teach NFP, we don'y really use it. Nursing the babies usually provided the spacing we needed by suppressing Sue's fertility.

Now we don't even desire to teach NFP. These young fertile couple learn it and use it to delay childbearing when it seems they do not really have a grave reason for having recourse to NFP. It breaks my wife's heart. She dearly wants a baby, and God has not blessed us with more.

But those who could and should do not, or murder them in the womb.

My kids pray every single day for a baby brother or sister. We just bought our second full size van, plenty of seats empty. Sometimes when I'm down I look at those empty seats and feel like they are mocking me: "You believe all this stuff, but where are the children?"

I know this is personal, but using NFP TO conceive as well as NOT conceive works. My husband and I have three children (and intend to try for our fourth early next year) and used NFP primarily for two reasons: spacing and finances. After our first two (who are 27 months apart), we were broke, my husband was out of work, etc. Anyway, we decided to wait 4-5 years before trying for another baby. We used NFP successful to avoid pregnancy (though we would have accepted any baby God gave us). When we were financially more secure, we used NFP to conceive and it worked.

I know not everyone is the same. I consider us blessed. There is five years between my youngest two, and the youngest is 14 months. We "plan" on having about 2 years between him and his little brother or sister. My husband is nine years older than me and over 40 and thinks 4 is perfect. I told him I'm young, anything can happen.

Of course, even if we try on the most fertile day there is no guarantee. But that's God's plan, not ours. Just like if a child is meant to be conceived, no natural or artificial contraception can prevent it.

I know this is personal, but using NFP TO conceive as well as NOT conceive works.

My wife and I have taught NFP to many couples now who were taking our course in order to conceive. So we know this application quite well.

After 5 years of trying, we're struggling mentally and spiritually with the idea of trying low dose fertility medication for my wife.
