Memorial of St. Charles Lwanga
Posted on 06/03/2002 7:38:17 AM PDT by JMJ333
Prayer:
Martyrs of Uganda, pray for the faith where it is danger and for Christians who must suffer because of their faith. Give them the same courage, zeal, and joy you showed. And help those of us who live in places where Christianity is accepted to remain aware of the persecution in other parts of the world. Amen
In 1886, Charles Lwanga and Twenty-one other Catholic men, including seventeen young pages between the ages of 13 and 30, plus some Protestants, were martyred by King Mwanga of Uganda. Their heroic courage rivalled that of the early martyrs.
--In you my God, I place my trust.
Because he clings to me I will deliver him. I will set him on high because he acknowledges my name. He shall call on Me and I will answer him. I will be with him in distress.
Blessed are the poor in Spirit--theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Died at Namugongo, Uganda, 1885-1887; beatified in 1920; canonized by Pope Paul VI in 1964; feast added to the Roman Calendar in 1969; declared the protomartyrs of Black Africa.
He succeeded Joseph Mkasa as master of the pages and continued his predecessor's censure of the king's homosexual practices and corruption of the young pages. This intensified King Mwanga's hatred of Catholics.
A good paint to petition in our present time of need.
St Charles Lwanga, pray for us.

It is awesome that God planned for this feast to be commemorated here in the middle of our struggle against the homosexual takeover of the Church.
Mary, Queen of All Saints, pray for us.
St. Charles Lwanga and Holy Martyrs of Uganda, pray for us.

It was awesome too when our pastor delivered his homily this morning. Citing the exact coincidence of present plight of our clergy and the martydom of St.Charles Lwanga. Oh! if only some of the present day clergy would recognize their propensity towards that lifestyle would truly repent or else step away from their calling, which probably was a misnomer to say the least.

The chaplain at my children's school is a grad student from Uganda. When he said Mass this morning it was a wonderful thing. He wore his bright red vestments and told the children about the martyrdom of these saints from his homeland. I feel so blessed that holy priests from Afirca are now missionaries in our pagan land! Uganda has good and holy priests and plenty of vocations. Amen. I pray our next pope is from Africa. We have much to learn from those whose lives are not luxrious as the lives of even "poor" Americans are by conparison.
