Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
(Music in The Bible)
Psalm 71
Psalm 71
1 In you, Lord, I have taken refuge;
let me never be put to shame.
2 In your righteousness, rescue me and deliver me;
turn your ear to me and save me.
3 Be my rock of refuge,
to which I can always go;
give the command to save me,
for you are my rock and my fortress.
4 Deliver me, my God, from the hand of the wicked,
from the grasp of those who are evil and cruel.
5 For you have been my hope, Sovereign Lord,
my confidence since my youth.
6 From birth I have relied on you;
you brought me forth from my mothers womb.
I will ever praise you.
7 I have become a sign to many;
you are my strong refuge.
8 My mouth is filled with your praise,
declaring your splendor all day long.
9 Do not cast me away when I am old;
do not forsake me when my strength is gone.
10 For my enemies speak against me;
those who wait to kill me conspire together.
11 They say, God has forsaken him;
pursue him and seize him,
for no one will rescue him.
12 Do not be far from me, my God;
come quickly, God, to help me.
13 May my accusers perish in shame;
may those who want to harm me
be covered with scorn and disgrace.
14 As for me, I will always have hope;
I will praise you more and more.
15 My mouth will tell of your righteous deeds,
of your saving acts all day long
though I know not how to relate them all.
16 I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, Sovereign Lord;
I will proclaim your righteous deeds, yours alone.
17 Since my youth, God, you have taught me,
and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.
18 Even when I am old and gray,
do not forsake me, my God,
till I declare your power to the next generation,
your mighty acts to all who are to come.
19 Your righteousness, God, reaches to the heavens,
you who have done great things.
Who is like you, God?
20 Though you have made me see troubles,
many and bitter,
you will restore my life again;
from the depths of the earth
you will again bring me up.
21 You will increase my honor
and comfort me once more.
22 I will praise you with the harp
for your faithfulness, my God;
I will sing praise to you with the lyre,
Holy One of Israel.
23 My lips will shout for joy
when I sing praise to you
I whom you have delivered.
24 My tongue will tell of your righteous acts
all day long,
for those who wanted to harm me
have been put to shame and confusion.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
Our Father In Heaven,
Magnified and Sanctified is Your Most Holy Name!
You Alone Are Worthy To Be Praised And Worshiped,
For You Alone Are Holy,
Righteous,
and Infinitely Just!
You Are Eternally Faithful,
and there is no Shadow of Turning with You.
Light and Darkness Can Not Occupy The Same Space,
and There is No Darkness With You.
Good and Evil Can Not Dwell Together,
And There is No Evil With You.
Yet You Always Judge Rightly,
With Grace and Truth,
Justice and Mercy,
Wisdom and Kindness,
Firmness and Gentleness.
LORD, You desire Truth in Our Inward Parts.
There is no way we can hide from You,
what is going on inside,
no matter what we say with our lips.
That being said,
And Even as You Know Every thought,
You STILL Open Your Everlasting Arms to hold us,
To be Our Strong Tower,
Our Only Refuge,
Our Rock and our Redeemer.
There is no other.
For the Sake of Your Anointed,
and For The Sake of Your Name,
We pray for the Peace of Jerusalem,
For Israel,
According to Your Word,
and Your Promise.
We Pray For Our President,
And other Leaders of Our Beloved USA
May They Receive Wisdom from You
To do the Right Thing.
We Pray For The Swift and Sure Coming of Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Establish His Kingdom,
and Make All Things Right.
Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.
Hallelujah and Amen

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem
" OK, Boomer."
I learned a new slang expression last night. It's a pejorative expression of ennui and contempt, and people of my age group are the target. Even though I teach teenagers, I had never encountered it before. "OK Boomer" is dismissive of people who were born during the "Baby Boom" after WW2, and who are now in their 60's and 70's. It's like the expression "Whatever!", but is targeted specifically to people of a certain age. Oh well, I've been called worse things.
There is a certain cosmic justice to "OK Boomer" as my generation was extremely rebellious and had its own expression (attributed to Bob Dylan) to "Never Trust Anyone Who is Over Thirty". And yet, when Bob Dylan was "over thirty" he released an album that caused me to seek the Lord. And the rest is, well, history.
Psalm 71 is a prayer for help in David's old age. He sees that his strength is fading and that his enemies are pressing the advantage. It is the third in a series of three related Psalms, and, as we will see tomorrow, David is "passing the torch" to his son Solomon.
It is a formal Psalm set up in a symmetrical pattern of 6 stanzas 5 lines-4 lines-5 lines, 5 lines-4 lines-5 lines. The center of the song, Verse 14, is a declaration of Hope and Trust in God.
here's how the song goes:
V. 1-4 Initial Appeal for God's Help
V. 5-8 Statement of Hope
V. 9-13 Prayer for Continuing Help
V. 14 Central Declaration of Trust and Hope in God
V. 15-18 Vow to Praise God
V. 19-21 Confession of Faith
V. 22-24 Vow to Praise God with Music.
It is interesting to note that my students have never said "OK Boomer" to me, because the want to learn how to play "Classic Rock" which is the music of MY Generation. So I get some of that R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
