Was it an injustice to St. Joseph to try to paste him onto a communist holiday and thereby associate him unjustly with workers of the world uniting?

That would have been an injustice, if that was the intent. The whole point of Pius XII's attachment of St Joseph to May 1 was to do just the opposite, to undercut the communist/socialist bastardization of work.
