U.S. Judge Blocks Ohio 'Heartbeat' Law to End Most Abortions

(Reuters) - A federal judge on Wednesday blocked Ohio from enforcing a new law that critics said would effectively ban most abortions in the state, starting as early as six weeks into pregnancy.

U.S. District Judge Michael Barrett in Cincinnati issued a preliminary injunction against enforcing the “Heartbeat Protection Act,” saying it imposed an unconstitutional “undue burden” on a woman’s right to obtain a pre-viability abortion.

The law was signed by Republican Governor Mike DeWine in April, following passage by the Republican-controlled state legislature, and was slated to take effect on July 11.

It was designed to stop doctors from performing abortions after a fetal heartbeat can be detected. This can occur six weeks into a pregnancy, before many women know they are pregnant. Under the law, violators could face up to a year in prison.

“Governor DeWine has long believed that this issue would be decided by the United States Supreme Court,” spokesman Dan Tierney said in an email following Wednesday’s decision.

Ohio is in the 6th District? I wonder how many of the judges in the 6th District were appointed by Obama and Clinton. Curious on how an abortion Law would fare during appeals in the 6th district.

The Judicial branch of government is the BIGGEST PROBLEM there is in this country!!!
Something must be done where one, or a small handful of people thwart the will of the people, or our representative form of government!!!

“saying it imposed an unconstitutional “undue burden” on a woman’s right to obtain a pre-viability abortion.”

Would someone please show me the spot in our Constitution that says that???

It wouldn’t be hard to control or remove court jurisdiction. The Constitution gives Congress this express authority, including limiting the appellate authority of the Supremes. In fact, the SC has ruled,

We are not at liberty to inquire into the motives of the legislature. We can only examine into its power under the Constitution; and the power to make exceptions to the appellate jurisdiction of this court is given by express words. ... It is quite clear, therefore, that this court cannot proceed to pronounce judgment in this case, for it has no longer jurisdiction of the appeal; and judicial duty is not less fitly performed by declining ungranted jurisdiction than in exercising firmly that which the Constitution and the laws confer.

I don't own any part of our major means of communication. I can't control Spotify, Pinterest, Google, Twitter, or Facebook. And they can all variously shadow-ban me, de-platform me, de-monitize me, silence me by their "Community Standards", or bury me into oblivion by their algorithms. Doesn't that put an undue burden on my freedom of speech?

Won't somebody at least buy me a printing press?

I also have the right to bear arms, but I don't own any firearms. Shouldn't every American be guaranteed a gun?

True. "I" grow humans is just part of the story.

Even the woman AND the man are just part of the stoyy. In Genesis (Gen 4:1) when Eve gives birth to the first child, it reads like this:

"Now the man had relations with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain, and she said, "I have gotten a manchild with the help of the LORD."
