Lawsuit Calls for POW Bible to be Removed from VA Hospital Display

Manchester, N.H., May 8, 2019 / 08:00 pm (CNA).- A Bible once carried by a World War II prisoner of war is the center of a legal fight at a veterans’ medical center in New Hampshire.

The Bible was part of a “Missing Man” table display, honoring prisoners of war and missing soldiers, placed at the entrance of the Manchester Veterans’ Administration Medical Center. The bible was donated to the medical center by a 95 year old veteran and former POW to whom it belonged. The veteran had the Bible while he was a prisoner of war.

A federal lawsuit now argues that the Bible should be removed from display, because it violates the First Amendment by appearing to favor one religion over another.

The suit was filed by U.S. Air Force veteran James Chamberlain, a Christian, after months of back and forth between a group of veterans and the staff of the Manchester Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center over the Bible. According to the New Hampshire Union Leader, 14 veterans and patients of the medical center filed complaints against the Bible with the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) in January of this year. These veterans were of varying religions; they were Protestant, Catholic, atheist, agnostic and of other religions, the Union Leader reported.

"...14 veterans and patients of the medical center filed complaints against the Bible..."

Is it me? Is there something seriously wrong here? Is this what we have come to as a country and a society?

I am a Christian. And I wouldn't have blinked an eye if there were a Torah there used by a POW, or anything like that.

I just don't get it. It seems like these people filing the suit have lost their way.

I should hope not, since the Torah (aka “Pentateuch”) is merely the first five books of the Christian Bible.

Atheists and agnostics are covered by that place on the table where there’s nothing.

Only religion I see represented by the remove the bible crowd is Dbagism.

I was just making the point, you know what I mean.

In my opinion, it is the concept of someone risking their neck in captivity to worship that is more important than the specific God they were worshiping in this context (the exhibit)

No, it’s not just you.

These lawsuits etc... Gave been going in for decades now.

They’re ludicrous.

They are done fir purely anti-Christian reasons despite whatever ruse is used - e.g. equality, constitutional rights etc...

From a Marxist viewpoint, an atheistic mind is already three-fourths conquered.

— The Naked Communist, chapter 12

We must combat religion. That is the ABC of all materialism, and consequently of Marxism.

— Lenin, “The Attitude of the Workers’ Party to Religion”, 1909
This is the kind of mindset that is at work here. It is not about religion against religion.

That’s not a Bible per se -— it’s a historical artifact with a verified history. It belongs there just as much as any other WWII artifact does.

>> because it violates the First Amendment by appearing to favor one religion over another.

Really?

Name the religion that doesn’t stem from the Bible, and therein lies the fraud.

They are insane.

I hope the judge will rule against them.

So, I guess these veterans that complained aren’t of the “I may disagree with what you say, but I’ll fight to the death for your right to say it” crowd. Disappointing.

I would agree with that, right along with a zippo and a pack of Lucky Strikes. I found my Uncle’s WWII pocket bible in a box of stuff. It had about a 1/8” steel plate on the cover iirc. I think those were actually issued.

[[It seems like these people filing the suit have lost their way. ]]

They have- they are very likely on their way to hell, pissed off about it, and angry at anything Christian

This reminds me of the time 0bammy went to Notre Dame University, a well known Christian university, and forced the university to cover up, hide, all Christian symbols and crosses and such.
