The only thing that ever interested me in papal history was Pope Joan and the institutionalized ritual of making sure popes were guys. Eewww. Some say it’s all fiction. Others not so sure.

I suspect Martin Luther thought the Pope in 1517 was pretty bad.

Have you read Luther’s 95 Thesis? The CC is still doing some of the same things that caused Luther to leave.

I am left wondering just where “Papal Infallibility” sits today with this guy who’s posing as Pope while failing to espouse Church Doctrine in so many ways.

I’m hoping someone else on the forum gives you a detailed response to this issue. I could do so myself but would rather not put forth the effort.

Where in Scripture does it tell you what books belong in Scripture?

Actually there are several mentions in scripture of the Almighty and others commanding their words be recorded.

God doesn’t choose Popes.

we have free will...God does not interfere with our bad choices....but picking a pope is not a choice Catholics have made...the inner sanctum of cardinals choose him and who knows what evil lurks there..

Last summer I went to a great venue called Sight & Sound Theatres, which stages outstanding Biblical re-enactments. They are VERY clear that these are adaptations and, thus, have embellishments not found in the Bible. While that may offend some people, I've found that some of these embellishments do a great job of reinforcing some points that I'd have missed, or do so in a manner that makes it stick in my brain.

For example, their Christmas show features a wife of an Innkeeper who lets Joseph and Mary stay in their stable...when she holds the Baby Jesus and looks into His eyes, she cries and hands Jesus back to Mary saying (something like) "I'm a sinful woman and I have no right to hold Him" to which Mary replies "...but He came here FOR YOU...for ALL of us." I am telling you, that was such an incredibly powerful moment that, while it may have never happened, I often think of it.

With specific regard to the italicizes comment, in Sight &Sound's story of Jesus, when Jesus is experiencing the Agony in the Garden, the actor playing Jesus starts moaning in fear, and they pipe over the sound system what is supposed to be voices of demons trying to get him to back out, saying "you have to swallow all their sewage and suffer, for what? You don't want to do this you don't no have to do this..." until Jesus yells "NO! NOT MY WILL..HIS WILL!!"

I have GOT to believe, when the Cardinals are picking a Pope, they are not just receiving input from the Holy Spirit but from Satan and all his evil spirits. It's like the old saying - whenever a church is built, the devil pitches a tent across the street. If the Cardinals' hearts and minds are not uncluttered or filled with earthly passions, I can easily understand how we get bad Popes.

Does the Holy Spirit guide the College of Cardinals in the selection of the new pope?

Actually, God does not allow evil to remain unchecked in His true church.

Read Revelation chapters 2&3.

The Catholic Church began with Jesus Christ and the Apostles. Where are you getting your mistaken information?

You are so right.

The trouble is that some of the non-Catholic posters quote the bad Popes as good Popes.

Yep, and we’ve had them before, but the Church is still here!

I never saw it in my pings or any replies to my posts where I asked the question.

What’s his screen name?

Can you point me to the link where he answered it?
